Job Summary

We are currently looking for two Occupational Therapists for our CYP team. One position is within the CYP core team and the other is in the Intensive Community Treatment Pathway (ICT).

CYP Community Occupational Therapist

  • CYP Community ED Team works with young people up to 17 who have suspected or diagnosed eating disorders. The team offers intensive assessment and treatment for children with complex emotional, sensory, behavioral, and psychological difficulties, providing intensive work with families/parents/carers to enhance their parenting skills.
  • Our experienced and dedicated multidisciplinary team is committed to providing the highest standards of care to help children and families rebuild their self-confidence. We take a solution-focused approach to address challenges and guide towards optimism, unveiling potential, and a positive future for the child and their family network.
  • We acknowledge that Band 6's are often the foundation of our clinical teams, and we will support their growth both clinically and managerially. You will have the opportunity to supervise staff, be an educator, and access internal and external training.

  • The ICT team assists patients in avoiding hospital admissions by delivering intensive support in the community.

Main Duties of the Job

With guidance from the Head Occupational Therapist (OT), you will conduct OT assessments and interventions. In your OT role, you will deliver individual interventions and group work, utilizing assessment tools and recovery principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment. You will also have the opportunity to supervise fieldwork placements for OT students and other team members.

You will receive training in Family-Based Treatment to provide evidence-based family-based treatment, collaborating with families and carers to enrich the recovery journey of the young person.

Job Description

  • Specific to assessment, the Occupational Therapist (OT) will utilize professional, evidence-based assessment tools to establish a child's/young person's baseline functional and performance capacity. Recommendations based on these assessments will guide ongoing care and treatment to facilitate optimal functioning, social integration, and educational participation.
  • Establish connections with other Occupational Therapists and Child and Family workers in inpatient and community CAMHS eating disorder teams to ensure seamless continuation of Occupational Therapy input if needed.
  • Support transitions for the young individual to adult services or work with the individual as part of an ageless service as it evolves within our service.
  • Manage a designated caseload of children and young people with complex mental health needs, applying evidence-based and recovery principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment.
  • Integrate evidence-based practice and adept use of assessments & interventions with personal recovery principles to enhance the child/young person's quality of life and assist them in pursuing their desired activities and leading the life they aspire to.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the impact of mental illness and physical conditions, offering guidance and advice on lifestyle modifications and adjustments to the child/young person's social and physical environment. This includes conducting assessments and making recommendations regarding the provision of equipment/aids and adaptations.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Health& Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Evidence of an active interest in further professional development with CAMHS, Pediatric &/or Mental health specific workshops and short courses.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in Sensory Integration.
  • Practice Placement Educator's Course.
  • Registration with RCOT.

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post-qualification experience of working with children or young people with emotional and behavioral issues or eating disorder experience.
  • Proficiency in utilizing various standardized OT assessments.
  • Proven experience in effective partnership working with external providers to enhance socially inclusive opportunities for children and young people.
  • Experience in resource management including finances, stock, equipment, etc.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a CAMHS setting.
  • Eating Disorder Experience.
