The Growth Company (GC) has an exciting new opportunity for a Safeguarding Lead who will be responsible for handling and reporting both child and vulnerable adult protection issues across the internal delivery and supply chain within GC Employment.

You will be the named lead for our Home Office Refugee Employability Programme (REP) which is a new service that will support the integration of refugees across England.


GC is a fast-growing, purpose-based social enterprise and as part of our mission for positive change we deliver services for the Home Office, working with refugees across Yorkshire & Humber.

Our services focus on supporting individuals holistically, ensuring they have access to all the support they need to progress forward into employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be the main point of contact for Safeguarding issues associated with the GC Employment business unit and be the Safeguarding Lad for the Home Office REP programme.
  • To work with and support a network of Designated Safeguarding Officers.
  • Oversee and coordinate the training of the Safeguarding Officers and Employment business unit colleagues in relation to Safeguarding Legislation and Practice.
  • To create and maintain relationships with the local Social Services Departments, Children's Services Team alongside the Safeguarding Management team across GC.
  • Ensure safeguarding is afforded the utmost priority at the most senior level internally and across the network.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and up to date documentation on all cases of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ensure that monitoring review systems are in place to incorporate new guidance and legislation and interrogate existing systems.
  • Develop GC Employmentwide procedures, practice and guidance for safeguarding that are compliant with local Safeguarding Children Board procedures.
  • Keep up to date on developments in the field of child protection and Safeguarding attending relevant training or events and reading relevant bulletins and publications.
  • Attend Local Authority or other relevant Safeguarding Training as required.

  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with sensitive situations with integrity.
  • The capacity to relate to young people, children and their parents, carers, care staff and professional staff at all levels.

Skills Required:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification (e.g.
  • Child Care, Social Work, Psychology, etc) or extensive work experience in a Safeguarding role.
  • Level 3 DSL Safeguarding qualifications.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a Safeguarding role.
  • Multiagency safeguarding/Child protection practice experience within a statutory agency setting.
  • Direct work with children, young people and adults at risk.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding legislation and the ability to translate it in to pragmatic and realistic advice and actions.
  • Knowledge of best practice in the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
