About the role The Apprentice Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner is a developing route to train to work within NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression offering an opportunity for applicants without degree qualifications who have other relevant professional and work experience in caring for people, particularly those who have experience in working within Mental Health services.

Typical applicants will be HCA's, support workers, care workers, triage assessors and other similar roles, including volunteering.

The apprenticeship post includes two days per week at University/self-directed study and three days of supervised clinical practice.

Trainees are expected to progress to working with a high degree of autonomy, with high volume caseloads including individual and group work; this may include telephone sessions, video consultation, and face-to-face clinical work.

The role is well supported with weekly case management supervision and monthly clinical supervision with qualified clinicians.

In addition to clinical contact, the role will include data collection, data management, analysis, record keeping and community engagement activities.


You must be able to demonstrate high standards of verbal and written communication; be able to establish good therapeutic relationships with people and be computer literate.

The training is demanding and includes a clinical placement where you will manage a caseload of low intensity patients whilst undertaking the Apprenticeship with Staffordshire University.

Following successful completion of the course and achieving satisfactory performance levels, there will be an opportunity to transition into a Substantive Contract within the service.

Once qualified you will be required to become a registered practitioner with either BABCP or BPS within 1 year.


About you Do you want to learn whilst you train? Do you hold English and Maths at either GCSE C or above or Level 2 Functional Skills? Are you a support worker, care worker, triage assessor or have experience of other helping roles or customer focused roles.

This training is designed to prepare you for employment as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner.
