Employment Taxes Graduate
Our award-winning Employment Taxes team is looking for a graduate to join the growing (highly experienced) team to enable them to expand their services further across the UK.
Job description
You'll be working with experienced members of the team advising UNW clients on all matters relating to employment taxes. A lot of the work can be project based, so no two weeks are the same.
UNW clients range in size from small owner managed businesses with just a few employees, to global household names with tens of thousands of employees.
In addition to becoming an expert in this specialist tax area, you will undertake training over a four year period under a Level 7 professional apprenticeship course to obtain your Chartered Tax Advisor qualification.
What you'll be doing
You'll be doing a lot of project based work for our clients and will be supported by senior members of the team during your training.
You will also gain knowledge of relevant tax legislation and you will use this as a basis for drafting advice to clients.
The work will include some direct contact with clients and government departments, in face to face and virtual meetings and over the telephone.
As the department relies totally on consultancy work arising from client work, there is no typical day in the life of an Employment Taxes adviser, and so you will need to be flexible in times when client needs are higher but also adaptable and resourceful at some times when the focus is on building client relationships and identifying where client needs are in the future.
Some recent examples of client work include:
- Speaking with a client in the engineering sector who had an employee working from home in Sweden and advising them on the tax and National Implications in both countries;
- Advising a technology client on the latest ideas on company cars including the benefits to the employee and employer on the use of "salary sacrifice";
- Advising an employer in the education sector about specific payments made to employees and what their reporting requirements were; and
- Meeting with an employer in construction to speak about the engagement of their selfemployed workers, researching case law and advising them whether there was a risk that they should be recategorized as employees and then carrying out a training session for their finance team.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an exceptional graduate who is keen to start their career in a professional services firm and obtain a prestigious professional qualification.
We need someone who has great attention to detail, is good with data/numbers and can also analyse written policies/legislation to produce sound commercial advice for clients.
You'll also need to be a good communicator, both verbal and written, and confident working with all levels of a business.
- Will take ownership of their professional development, with support from the team
- Can deliver a brilliant client experience
- Isn't afraid of failure and can turn mistakes into learnings
- Will be prepared to "go the extra mile" for clients and for colleagues
- Enjoys working in a team
Why would I choose UNW?
We aim to be the best at what we do and pride ourselves on being "unlike others".
We put our people at the centre of our culture because if they love working at UNW, they'll do amazing client work.
In addition to market based salaries we also offer:- Extensive training and career development
- Study support/leave and professional memberships
- Sports and social club
- Charity committee
- Ability to purchase extra holidays and extra holidays with length of service
- Volunteering days
- A flexible work approach
- Investors in People, Gold level accreditation
Are we a match?
At UNW we have certain values and it's important that we recruit like-minded people into our teams.
- We believe in being "one team" it's not "them and us"
- We have a "no blame" culture people learn from their mistakes
- Lifelong learning we encourage people to continue to learn after professional training and invest in training and development
- Be committed and driven work can be challenging but you'll be supported
- Be nice we pride ourselves in being friendly and "real people"
