About the role

Tesco are seeking an associate UI designer to immerse themselves in the needs of UK customers using our online shopping products.


Driven by a desire to discover customer problems, you will deliver creative user-centred solutions that will have a positive and tangible impact on millions of customers.


The scale of the business will offer a budding UI designer the chance to learn how to leverage human insight and data to make the small but powerful design changes that impact customer experience and business drivers.

You will be responsible for

  • Using the Tesco design library and established design patterns to the best of their potential to design creative and efficient solutions that people will want to use
  • Developing and presenting creative concepts with your design rationale of how they address user needs
  • Implementation of design concepts to a standard ready to handover for development
  • Following and contributing to a culture of excellence, understanding how your work fits in with the larger organization
  • Documenting the design process
  • Creating intuitive working files for the wider UXDR team to use
  • Understanding of new design rules, patterns, systems, brand guidelines and interaction guides, and how to recognize new design system opportunities to help improve the UI practice
  • Collaborating with other UI designers, UX designers, researchers, UX writers and developers to produce and help maintain digital products
  • Staying connected with product strategy and backlog priorities, understanding how your work impacts customer needs and business objectives
  • Production of highquality work with attention to detail to meet deadlines
You will need

  • A strong and varied personal portfolio in digital format
  • To have used the latest versions of Figma/Sketch or similar software packages
  • An awareness of accessibility fundamentals/best practices and passion to develop your knowledge
  • Experience of working with design systems whether inhouse or a standard operating system (Human interface, Material design)
  • Some knowledge/experience of designing responsive user interfaces for desktop, tablet and mobile devices
  • To be curious and eager to learn from others and help others learn
  • To be brave and flexible, able to challenge when necessary and quickly adapt to changing project needs
  • Organised and thorough in your design process with attention to detail
  • A passion for design
