This new full time position effectively merges all three of these experiences together into one role. Along with a healthy sprinkle of special DCUK magic.

Based at our rural Devon HQ for at least four days per week, you'll work closely with the Head of Marketing and our agency partners. There will be plenty of exciting opportunities to get stuck in, get creative, and most importantly – take ownership of key areas of the marketing plan.

What would you be doing all week?

The exciting thing about DCUK is that every day really is different, with potential opportunities and challenges waddling along all the time. We do still need to ensure consistency for this new role though – and so here's an approximate split of expected focus areas for the role:

50% social media and content for the DCUK brand – managing and driving the content strategy across our channels, plus working with our agency partners to help maximise our paid social and Google advertising ambitions.

Examples: community management, engaging with customers, paid ads, proactive content ideas.

20% eCommerce management – responsibility for editing, updating, refreshing, and maintaining relevant elements of our eCommerce store. Working with retail colleagues to reflect our ever-changing stock levels.

Examples: updating new visuals and copy, user experience (UX) ideas, and sales support.

30% marketing activities – take ownership of specific projects from the marketing plan, and work with our graphic design team where needed. Assist colleagues with tactical solutions to support our strategy.

Examples: trade catalogue, email newsletters, new range launches, displays and point of sale support.

What sort of skills are needed?

We'd love you to come in, and hit the proverbial ground running in a short space of time. This means you'll already have a minimum of a year's experience within a marketing-related role, with some responsibility for activities similar to those outlined in our examples.

You'll have a passion for all things marketing, and relish the chance to create meaningful, memorable customer experiences. You'll be aware of the concepts surrounding digital marketing and the importance of eCommerce in today's marketplace.

Although full training will be provided for our digital tools and platforms, we'd still expect you to arrive with a certain level of digital competence. This will likely include knowledge of the principles associated with optimising conversion, and engaging email marketing.

It'd also be great to know that you're keen to learn and (perhaps most of all) not be afraid to ask silly questions or challenge any conventional and safe ideas.

PS: Having a fun, open-minded, and positive attitude is really important.

Essential

  • At least a year's experience within a marketing role
  • Previous experience with eCommerce and content marketing related activities
  • Strong project management, multitasking, and decision-making abilities
  • An outgoing, friendly and positive personality
  • Passion and keen interest for all aspects of modern-day marketing
  • Access to own vehicle (our head office is not accessible by public transport)

Desirable

  • Experience with Content Management Systems
  • Knowledge of reporting dashboards, and email campaign tools
  • Interest in behavioural science, and unearthing customer insights

Every DCUK duck or feathered friend we sell is a true original, having been hand-carved and painted individually from bamboo root. We then send them out to their grateful new owners – either directly from our base in Devon, or through our many trade partners, shops, garden centres and gift shops. This is largely in the UK, but we also have partners in Australia, the USA and Italy, with more on the way.

Finally, we've been working hard to set up partnerships with some other great brands. We're doing a lot with the RNLI, and have customised characters for sale with the likes of Hever Castle, and Severn Valley Railway. We're also working on characters for another exciting license, but we can't say any more just yet
