Our client are a highly respected commercial contractor based in Baldock, specialising in commercial fit-out and refurbishment, education and healthcare projects.

Working with a young and dynamic, highly motivated team you will have the opportunity to progress through the business, either into a full Quantity Surveyor role or into another discipline if that is preferred (dependent on aptitude).

The Role

  • Support the Lead Quantity Surveyor and the wider project team in dealing with all commercial matters relating to our clients projects, from inception through to completion.
  • Monitor and manage resource allocations to ensure budgets are not exceeded.
  • Receive and analyse quotations for works packages, and make recommendation as to which suppliers appear best value.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure that financial information is received in a timely manner.
  • Perform subcontract account administration duties, including recording all issues that may have an impact on costs etc.
  • Work with our commercial management software (Eque2 Construct) to raise purchase orders, payment certificates and the like.
  • Monitor expenditure against budget and report any shortfall to Directors.
  • Attend site meetings and undertake site visits to ensure that all works are proceeding as expected, and identify any changes, crossover or variance in agreed works packages.
  • Always be prepared to challenge any situation to ensure best value is being provided to the company.
  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Office (particularly Outlook and Excel).
  • Good Maths skills, and an ability and/or willing ness to learn how to read and understand technical information.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all types of people, including clients and suppliers.
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills.
  • Selfmotivated, with a positive attitude.
  • A knowledge of building technology and methodologies would be a distinct advantage.
