We are developing a world-class product management organisation and have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Content Tools & Discovery to lead the development of our content platforms and integrations.

This role is strategically critical to the organisation in achieving its strategy and ambition.

The person in this role will intuitively understand what customers' content needs are, and work closely with the Heads of Web and Mobile experiences to provide the right content to the right customers at the right time.


Accountabilities:

  • Set the vision and strategy for all the content tools used by the business our core CMS, audio, and video platforms, and how they integrate together in a content layer. They need to be intuitive for our internal customers (editors) but also highly technically efficient. Ensure the technical architecture is aligned with business and endtoend process needs
  • Set the vision and strategy for how our content assets can be best shared to internal endpoints (web and mobile products), as well as external (e.g. Apple/Google, and syndication partners). This means being involved in the strategic direction for API development (GraphQL, REST, etc), as well as defining metadata and taxonomy structure that is right for the business. All so that the web and mobile teams can meet their content engagement KPIs and objectives.
  • Identify and lead areas for strategic growth and customer improvement in how our customers find and discover our content (e.g. search).
  • Lead a team of (Technical) Product Managers responsible for the delivery of our tools leading by example through dedication, enthusiasm, pragmatism and empathy.
  • Define the product roadmap, involving all the right senior stakeholders from the Engineering and Delivery functions.
  • Lead data/content migration strategies, plans and processes
  • Be the 'go to' person for Editorial colleagues to work with to ensure their tools are fit for purpose and best in class.

Experience, skills and professional attributes:

  • Have demonstrable experience with Content Management, tools, and news room practices.
  • Setting clear priorities to achieve customer and business needs with the team, and rally the team around them.
  • C-Level experience with communicating and presenting clearly and succinctly.
  • Strong technical knowledge of CMS systems, data structures, GraphQL and endtoend content architecture. Multimedia experience hugely helpful.
  • Partnering with engineering, design, delivery and business stakeholders to achieve an optimal product experience. Be comfortable working in close collaboration to define requirements, ideate hypotheses, develop solutions and optimise our products.
  • Confidently lead and collaborate with your teams of designers, developers, QA and delivery leads, using Agile methodologies to their full potential
  • Comfortable with every stage of the customer lifecycle from SEO / acquisition through to conversion, and retention. Understanding the dynamic between free visitors, registered customers, and subscribers.
  • Communicating product developments and product vision to stakeholders around the business in a way that is meaningful and impactful to them, at the right level of detail. Create shared understanding and alignment on customer problems and outcomes.
  • Creating the appropriate documentation for all the above, showing a keen eye for detail and enjoyment in writing excellent user stories, JIRA tickets, product briefs, and delivery assessments where required.

  • Builder: Someone who has built backend API service platforms or implemented headless CMSs and is excited by the opportunity to do so. It is essential that as a product leader you take pride in what you deliver for customers.
