Position

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Plumbing Technician based at University Hospital Ayr.

What you will do:

Following completion of a recognised apprenticeship and having gained extensive experience in this field, you will be part of a team responsible for the delivery of plumbing services within the hospital environment and community premises. You will assist in the provision of a comprehensive multi-site installation, maintenance and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) service and to maximise the efficiency and quality of the mechanical, electrical and environmental services of NHS Ayrshire & Arran using resources available.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

You should be a suitably experienced Maintenance Craftsman. You should be able to demonstrate versatility in a range of work. A City & Guilds Craft Certificate, or equivalent for the trade is essential. Experience in building services within a hospital environment including the control of Legionella in hot and cold water systems would be an advantage.

You will also be required to take part in an on call rota and be able to work at other hospitals within Ayrshire to meet the demands of the service.

Due to the requirement to participate in an on call rota it is desirable that the successful applicant should live no more than 30 minutes travelling time from the hospital.

Hours: 37 per week (8.00am to 4.30 pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am to 1.00pm Friday)

A Car licence/Car ownership is essential to this role.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Ayrshire and Arran is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
