Job summary

Workingas part of a small, friendly and competent clinical team, you will work withplenty of autonomy but in a supportive environment with a qualified nursemanagement team. You will be hands on and involved in every aspect of ourresidents care, ranging from personal care to managing and administeringmedication.

Youwill be expected to make sound clinical judgements whilst role modelling bestpractise and inspiring and mentoring junior staff to achieve their potential.You will have the opportunity to develop your own clinical skills, and workclosely with our in-house specialist therapy team to deliver the best outcomesfor our residents.

Main duties of the job

You will need to have a minimum of 12 months experience post-qualification, (with a minimum of 6 months left on your PIN), and if you have an interest or experience in neurological conditions and rehab that would be an advantage.

About us

The Marbrook Centre is an award winning specialist neurological and dementia care provider in St Neots, (PE19 8EP). We deliver specialist 24 hour nursing and therapy services for adults with complex and long term neurological conditions.

With our own inhouse clinical MDT, (including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychology) we offer outcome focused rehab care for those living with a life changing incident such as ABI, Spinal Cord Injury or Stroke and long term neurological conditions such as MND.

Job responsibilities

To ensure that NICE guidelines, best practise and the NMC code ofprofessional conduct are followed at all times regarding all aspects of theservice including care plans and care delivery

To lead the care team whilst achieving management objectives andprioritising resident needs

To lead, manage and oversee the shift operation and to be accountablefor the smooth running of the shift

To inspire in staff the ability to operate efficiently, caringly anddynamically so that resident needs are fulfilled and best practice is operated,by leading, role modelling, coaching and mentoring Support Workers andcolleagues

To allocate tasks and delegate effectively, fairly and appropriately

To support audits as required

To address errors, issues and poor performance in care staff in a timelyand appropriate manner, reporting up to the appropriate manager whenappropriate

To deliver care directly and carry out resident personal care tasks

To liaise closely with therapy team regarding implementation of personalcare plans and routines, in line with rehabilitation goals

To dispense medications and mentor care staff through medicationdispensing competencies

To be responsible for the reviewing and updating of resident care plansin conjunction with the wider MDT

To prepare and maintain the records of resident care to NMC standards,and to participate in the implementation and evaluation of standards of care

To keep abreast of new developments in the profession, and to bringinnovation and creative input to the role for consideration and discussion withline manager

To report to the Service Manager or person in charge anyaccidents/incidents, verbally and in writing and in accordance with Marbrooksprocedures

To respond to and support residents family members at an appropriatelevel, referring up to Service Manager when needed

To ensure when asking care staff to deliver tasks that they have therelevant competency, capability and experience to carry out the task safely andcorrectly

To undertake special projects with the guidance of the Service Manager

To adhere to the rota, working flexibly to enhance teamwork and residentcare

To provide information and promote a professional, competent,approachable image to residents, colleagues and visitors, with respect anddignity at all times

To ensure effective ordering, stock control, safe storage andadministering of medication including controlled drugs, in line with Marbrookssystems and procedures

To actively participate in all required meetings including MDT meetings,care and support meetings, staff meetings etc to ensure clinical care isoptimised and best practice is operated at all times

To deliver routine meetings such as Return to Works, Supervision andother people management meetings as required and with guidance of the ServiceManager

To keep and maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment for residents,visitors and other staff at all times, and report and act upon any concerns

To resolve when possible/appropriate, or report all resident andrelative complaints and concerns by liaising with management and/or therelevant designated person in charge

To adhere to, apply and ensure infection control procedures areimplemented in a manner that is consistent with evidence based practice,maintaining resident, staff and visitors safety

To disseminate and share information with appropriate staff promptly,efficiently, accurately as required in order to maintain high standards of carefor residents

To take an active role in own personal and professional development

To be accountable for/carry the responsibility for appropriate leveldecisions that need to be made regarding residents and care staff, with ServiceManager support

To keep accurate and clear documentation in line with sector specificand legal requirements.

To take responsibility for stock management and control, ensuring stocksare managed stably and efficiently at all times

To support the recruitment, selection and development of Support Workersas required.

To attend all mandatory and developmental training courses relevant tothe post and as agreed with the line manager

To work in accordance with all relevant legislation CQC standards,Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty, Health & Safety at Work etc,and in line with The Marbrook Centres policies and procedures at all times,contributing (if and when appropriate) to the revision of these documents.

To act in line with Health and Safety at Work legislation andrequirements and in line with The Marbrook Centres approach to Health andSafety at all times.

To act in line with the Care Standards Act 2000 and Safeguarding ofVulnerable Adults (SoVA) at all times.

At all times to: ensure high levels of confidentiality when dealing withsensitive material and information, to respect the dignity and confidentialityof our service users, and to adhere to the Data Protection Act 1998.

To undertake any other duties from time to time, in order to maintainand enhance the service provision and as this role develops.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered General/Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurse (current) - minimum of 12 months post qualification. Experience or knowledge of neurological or physical rehabilitation services A demonstrated commitment to caring for people who have neurological conditions

Desirable

Experience of mentoring, assessing and teaching of staff
