Airbus Helicopters is the world's largest helicopter manufacturer and the company's site at Oxford Airport is Britain's civil helicopter hub.


AHUK is the MoD's chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its Defence Helicopter Flying School (referred to as MFTS) located in RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) and RAF Valley (Anglesey).


Description/Overall purpose of the Job


As Maintenance Test Pilot & Instructor you will be responsible for conducting helicopter maintenance flight tests and ferries between operator and customer bases.

You will assist the Chief Test Pilot in day to day maintenance flight operations scheduling in conjunction with business demands under UK CAA regulation.

In addition you will be required to assist the Head of Training through delivery of helicopter type rating instruction under AHUK UK ATO.

Whilst also supporting AHUK Sales team with flight topics to promote the sale of AH products and features.

As post holder you will also be expected to represent AHUK with both commercial and military customers at meetings, symposiums or industry events.


Main responsibilities

  • Assist the CTP to provide all pilots with aeronautical data to enable them to plan for the flight tasks to which they have been allocated.
  • Before a flight, brief the flight crew and other pertinent personnel.
  • Conduct flight operations in accordance with Airbus Group ED008 & AHUK Flight Operations manual and CFAOS manual where relevant.
  • Conduct Maintenance Test flights in accordance with Airbus technical procedures.
  • Conduct Demonstration flights to Airbus customers
  • Participate in the acceptance and delivery of new aircraft from the Factory.
  • Deliver flying instruction towards Type Rating qualification on multiple types to the standard required by Airbus Helicopters Training.
  • Comply with AHUK annual training and development requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

_Essential _

  • Be capable of holding numerous complex and noncomplex helicopter type ratings as required by the role.
  • Capable of holding a Class One UK CAA Medical.
  • Good communicator capable of representing AH UK to private, commercial and military customers.
  • A good aviation background with an understanding of aircraft systems and engineering.
  • Awareness and understanding of applicable aviation authority regulations for the role.
  • 2000 hours Multi-Engine Helicopter engine flying time; varied flying experience.
  • Experience of maintenance test flying.
  • Extensive Helicopter instructional experience.

_Desirable _

  • Ex military trained helicopter pilot an advantage.
  • Experience of CFAOS an advantage.
  • Experience as Examiner an advantage.
  • Knowledge of MAA 2000 series regulations in conjunction with CFAOS an advantage.

Education, Qualifications or Training

_Essential _

  • Hold a current UK CAA CPL(H) or higher.
  • Hold a current Multi-Engine Helicopter Type Rating.
  • Hold or have held a Helicopter Instrument Rating
  • Be capable of holding Instructor/Examiner ratings to support AHUK ATO.

_Desirable _

  • Existing TRI/TRE, FI/FE ratings.
  • EASA Licence an advantage.
  • Helicopter TRI/TRE Ratings an advantage.
  • NVG qualification an advantage.
  • Hold or have held Airbus Helicopter Type ratings an advantage.

About you

  • Team player with ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills; written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally at all levels.
  • A reliable individual capable of working without close supervision in remote locations.

Additional requirements

  • Due to the nature of this position you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance.
  • Applicants must meet any/all requirements of Export Compliance Regulations.
  • Right to live and work in the UK.
  • Capable of holding a UK MOD CFAOS pilot approval.
  • Able to travel within the UK & Europe.
  • UK driving licence.

KPI's

  • Conduct safe flight operations in accordance with Group Policy, AHUK Flight Operations Manual and CFAOS.
  • Deliver flight instruction to the standard required by Airbus Group Training Network.
