Sales Assistant

The Antiques Centre York is York's largest and friendliest antiques centre. We sell antiques jewellery and collectables on behalf of over 100 dealers to thousands of York residents and tourists from home and around the world. We are a family-owned business of over 20 years.

We have part-time sales assistant roles currently available

We are looking for a confident, outgoing and personable colleague who loves working in a busy environment and with the general public. We are particularly interested in meeting someone who lives in York and intends to stay in our great city

As a sales assistant, your main job is to help our interesting and diverse customers find things they love.

The start of any sales process is being confident, open, empathetic and with a 'joy de Vivre' to work. This way we can help people find something they love and leave us with a smile on their face. This role will suit somebody who is smart, confident, adaptable and willing to muck in and try new things.

This is the opposite of working for a large corporate retailer where you sell the same thing over and over again. Our products, dealers and customers are wildly diverse and ever-changing.

Zero hour contract with anticipated hours being from 20 hours a week. Must have generous availability Friday to Sunday. Flexibility with hours will be vital for this role as seasonal demands and holiday cover is essential for a successful candidate

National minimum wage or higher depends on experience.

In this role you will be required to:

  • Create an excellent customer experience by providing outstanding customer service
  • Have sales experience, or willingness to learn
  • Ideally (but not essential) some working knowledge of antiques and collectables, with an interest to learn more
  • Promote a strong working relationship with the antiques dealers and assist with related tasks.
  • Accurately process transactions on till.
  • Computer literate
  • Generally fit (There are lots of stairs in the building)
  • Assisting with packing and dispatching online orders where required
  • Ensure the Centre is clean and presentable at all times
