About the role:


The purpose of our Equity, Inclusion and Wellbeing (EIW) team is to embed an inclusive culture of belonging that promotes a positive employee experience, and delivers our Inclusion and Wellbeing commitments, enabling people to thrive whatever their background or identity.


We have an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Equity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Consultant, responsible for continuing to embed an inclusive culture of belonging, fostering good people relations, and delivering our inclusion and wellbeing commitments.


The role will help shape the University's approach to, and provision of, EI&W propositions and deliver long term impact and value.

It will work across the University to raise awareness of the barriers and obstacles faced by minority groups, challenge under-representation and help guide the setting of goals within the wider team.


In this role, you will work collaboratively and independently as part of lively Talent, Culture and Inclusion (TCI) team, to achieve defined milestones and deliver high quality work as part of the Inclusion Strategy and Wellbeing Framework.

For this work, you will create a positive employee experience that enables all people to thrive.

This will include, but is not limited to:

  • Assimilating information from a variety of sources to make recommendations in relation to EIW.
  • Analysing, writing, and presenting data stories to others, using benchmarking data to assess progress.
  • Undertaking horizon scanning for needs and trends, providing solutions with demonstrable outputs and impact.
  • Identifying and addressing inequity across the University by consulting with employee networks on matters relating to equality impact assessments.
  • Planning and promoting EIW engagement and development.


This role gives you opportunities to engage with external bodies, build your technical knowledge and continue to grow the reputation of the University in the areas of Inclusion and Wellbeing.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor EI&W solutions that facilitate an inclusive culture and are aligned to the University's strategic ambitions. You will act as an enabler to academic delivery, staff and student experience, and University operations.
  • Stakeholder engagement to foster good relations, promote psychological safety and advance workforce belonging. Together with the Head of Equity, Inclusion and Wellbeing, you will deliver key charter marks, such as the Race Equality Charter, Athena Swan, Stonewall Workplace Index, Armed Forces Covenant.
  • Proficient in telling and writing data stories, presenting data to others and using benchmarking data to assess progress. You will be competent at report writing and presenting to enable the University to discharge its Public Sector Equality Duty.
  • Assimilate information from a variety of sources to make recommendations in relation to EIW. You will undertake horizon scanning for needs and trends, providing solutions with demonstrable outputs and impact.
  • Identify and address inequity across the University by consulting with employee networks on matters relating to equality impact assessments.
  • Promote EI&W engagement and development. You will collaborate with employee networks to plan and deliver an effective central programme of EIW activity.
  • Raise the profile of EI&W through external activity. You will participate in communityfocused civic activity and engage with recruitment activity at Open Days.
  • Ensure optimal outsidein delivery of competitive practice and broaden and deepen organisational EI&W capacity and capability. You will develop and maintain technical EI&W proficiency through contacts with relevant sector bodies, professional associations and other HE institutions.
