To manage elements of the Technical Services team, with focus on bidding and estimating function within the Delivery Unit, to deliver technical support during the tender and delivery process.To knowledge share across the centres of excellence and the wider CSUK to deliver high quality bids and technical services.What you'll be doingAs a Pre-Construction Manager, you will have the following accountabilities:Participate in the selection of realistic, achievable, profitable opportunitiesFormulate and agree bid, proposal & win strategies with senior management to secure profitable ordersForm relationships with the customer or their representatives to develop clear understanding of their requirements to enable development of our value propositionEstablish, manage and maintain an approved budgetOversee and lead the preparation, coordination and delivery of presentations to customers as required, to successfully communicate our proposalsAttendance at key customer meetings and industry events (e.g. bidder open days)Oversee the establishment, production and implementation of pre-construction management processes.Develop technical expertise to differentiate the regional business from competing regional businessesEnsure that technical support is provided throughout bids/proposals and delivery as requiredEncourage knowledge sharing across Centres of Excellence and the wider Balfour Beatty Group (harness the capability of the larger organisation on a local basis)Provide leadership to the design, development and engineering solutions teams, ensuring effective resource allocation to bid/proposal teams and projectsLead and manage teams effectively to work with customers, to optimise value in bids/proposals and on projectsSupport the Delivery Unit Commercial team in post bid/proposal negotiationsEnsure that identified risk and opportunity is managed as part of the pricing processParticipate in providing the "winning strategy" including margin/profit decisionsSupervise and provide commercial & technical advice to estimatorsAssist with and prepare documentation for submission to the customerEnsure that considered responses are produced to customer generated questions / queries during / after the tender/proposal processEnsure that appropriate and adequate handover information is generated to enable the project operational and commercial team to fully understand the delivery strategy adopted in the tender/proposal and that all relevant documentation is transferredLead, coach and develop individuals to build high performing teams and create a pipeline of talent to both enhance and grow the teamWho we're looking forExcellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the entire supply chain.The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines is essential, as is a flexible attitude to deal with a variable and demanding workload.
