Job Summary

The post holder will provide **specialist psychological service** for young children and their families within **CAPS Early Years Intervention Service in Manchester**. Responsibilities include offering **parent groups, individual psychological assessment and intervention, advice, consultation, and training** to support the psychological knowledge of early years workforce. The post-holder might also supervise trainee and assistant clinical psychology colleagues.

The team comprises **clinical psychologists, PIMHS Health Visitors, mental health practitioners, and parent group leaders employed within the voluntary sector**. The role is part of the under 5s **CAMHS provision in Manchester**, connected to **infant mental health pathway and early years social communication pathways**. We are seeking a **Senior Clinical Psychologist** to join the team, working effectively and autonomously within this multi-agency context by providing clinical work, supervision, training, and consultation.

**Main Duties of the Job:**

  • Clinical Psychologist** or **Mental Health Practitioner** passionate about working with parents and children up to the age of 5?
  • Working in an expanding service with local colleagues and partners focused on young children and parents.
  • Experience with young children and families with varying relationship and social/emotional development needs and risk.
  • Skills in supporting children and parents in early years to develop healthy attachment relationships.
  • Manage caseload autonomously, providing high-quality care matching infant, young child, and parent needs.
  • Confident in communication, supervision, and consultation.
  • This role involves clinical work, supervision, training, and offering consultation to other team members.

Person Specification:

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Recognized qualification such as Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Nursing, midwifery, SW qualification accredited by BPS, HCPC, NMC, or SW.

Desirable:

  • Certificate in supervision skills.
  • Additional postgraduate training in psychological therapies and interventions for the perinatal period.

Experience and Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Significant experience working with children and young people in an early intervention/early years setting.
  • Training in multi-disciplinary assessments for children and adolescents.
  • Experience liaising and collaborating with various agencies and professionals, managing challenging conversations.
  • Developing evidenced-based assessments, formulations, care plans, and utilizing ROMS effectively.
  • Assessing and managing risks, including safeguarding.
  • Effective work with individuals having mental health issues, autonomously managing complex caseloads.
  • Teaching and training staff from different professional backgrounds in psychological skills.
  • Updated knowledge of child mental health and relevant laws.

Desirable:

  • Functioning in a multi-disciplinary team, effective communication with other agencies, education, GP's.
  • Certification in evidence-based interventions for the perinatal period like Baby bonding, Baby IY, Circle of security.
  • Experience in parent-infant mental health settings.
  • Mentoring, supervision of others, supporting mental health of junior staff and trainees.
