Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom National Star Full time

Are you looking for a senior care role with the potential to develop you into a future manager? Look no further than National Star.

We are currently looking for Senior Support Worker to join us on fixed term contract for up to 12 months.

Based at our picturesque campus at Ullenwood on the outskirts of Cheltenham, you will be supporting young people with complex disabilities to live their lives to the full.

There is no such thing as a typical student at National Star. They have a range of physical and learning disabilities and different hopes and aspirations for the future.

From personalised care to simply being there, you will support the students to pursue their hobbies, learn life skills such as cooking and laundry in their residence and act as a facilitator so they can make the most of their time at college.

Your first-class people skills will help you to lead a team of care workers, working together to provide a high standard of individualised care, promoting and encouraging learners' personal development.

After a comprehensive induction into how we work at National Star, you will be able to work on your own initiative and be able to plan and organise effectively.

We're anticipating that you will have at least two year's care experience, ideally with people with a learning and/or physical disability.

However it's not a dealbreaker if your care experience has been working in other care fields and you want to take your career in a different direction.

It is likely that you will have a Level 3 in health or social care, or a Level 2 and be willing to study towards your Level 3 qualification on appointment.

The post requires shift work, with early shifts starting at 7am and late shifts ending at 10pm and 11pm with alternating weekend working.

About us
National Star is a growing charity with more than 1,100 staff based in England and Wales. Established more than 50 years ago, we've supported hundreds of young people with disabilities to achieve their potential.

How we will reward you

Our Golden Hello
It's motivating to feel valued at work.

That's why all new staff will receive a 'Golden Hello' up to the value of £250 for full-time staff (pro-rata for part-time employees) upon successful completion of their probation.

Staff benefits
Fantastic career development opportunities and comprehensive induction programme - theory and practical

Award-winning training

Free staff mini-bus from Cheltenham and Gloucester to Ullenwood, Monday to Friday. This service operates from 6am - midnight.

Use of fitness suite and swimming pool and staff clubs

Health Shield medical cover

Life insurance cover

Employee helpline

Contributory pension scheme

Opportunity to purchase a TOTUM discount card

Employee discounts at attractions, high street retailers, supermarkets, utilities and motoring, plus much more

How to apply
Please note that all applicants will be expected to undertake a DBS Disclosure, and undergo the necessary employer checks.

The level of disclosure to be applied for will be dependent on your job role and will be discussed with you during the recruitment process but is usually an enhanced level.

Where appropriate, the adult and child barred lists will be checked and we will not employ anyone who appears on either of those registers.
