Background


Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club, established 150 years ago and based in the heart of Chester, incorporates Chester Boughton Hall CC and Chester Nomads AFC.

Sport is played at the ground all year round.


Following a personnel change, the Club seeks a full-time grounds person to maintain the ground across the year, supporting it's significant number of senior and junior cricket and football sides as well as other recreational activity from time to time.

The Club wishes to retain its reputation for high standard facilities.

Applicants should therefore have significant experience of cricket ground preparation and maintenance as well as an understanding of general ground update and management.

The jobholder will have a broad skill base to ensure the flagship site has a top class appearance at all times.


About Chester Boughton Hall CC
The site covers c 11 acres and includes two cricket squares.

From late September until March, it's home to Chester Nomads AFC and is converted to three full size adult pitches and a number of smaller junior pitches.

A satellite ground - approximately three miles away - also boasts two full size football pitches.


Cricket is played from early April until late September and during its busiest period, matches are played seven days a week.

The Club plays in the Cheshire County Premier League and hosts a number of prestigious fixtures including home games for Cheshire County Cricket Club, Lancashire 2ndXI and Lancashire Thunder.

There are additional representative fixtures including, from time to time, MCC matches.


Chester Nomads AFC compete in the West Cheshire AF League and have six senior sides The junior football section has in excess of 30 sides from year five upwards.

We're looking for a flexible individual, unfazed by tight deadlines and with positive communication skills.

A 'can do' attitude is essential as is a great appreciation of local sport and the ability to play a significant role in the day to day running of the Club.


Job purpose

  • All yearround preparation, maintenance and development of nominated amenities and playing surfaces for club members and guests.
  • Provision of playing surfaces that are safe and of consistent quality.
The position does not receive technical guidance from a line manager.

Job responsibilities
Ground Duties

  • Responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of cricket square and individual wickets to an excellent standard.
  • Prepare, implement and monitor weekly, monthly and annual maintenance programmes to ensure the required standard of surface presentation.
  • Lead end of season renovations on the cricket square.
  • Preparation of senior and junior football pitches to agreed specifications.
  • Estimate required resources for work projects and make recommendations on best use of playing surfaces.
  • Ensure all equipment is correctly maintained and serviced.
  • Ensure safe working practices throughout.
  • Undertake basic risk assessments, recommending improvements and responding to emergencies.
  • Preparation of grounds for other sports and recreational pursuits as directed from time to time.
Management

  • Develop and manage an annual ground budget.
  • Work with Ground Chair to recruit and manage occasional casual support staff as required.
  • Close liaison with cricket/football fixture managers to feed into Club calendar.
  • Ongoing liaison with support volunteer individuals.
  • Collect and record data on playing environment to monitor development.
Knowledge and skills

  • Up to date knowledge and the experience in undertaking cricket and football ground preparation and maintenance.
  • Good sports participation understanding (cricket and football).
  • Awareness of sports age group regulations.
  • Sound awareness of legislation relating to chemicals/dangerous substances that may be required on the premises.
  • Full understanding of appropriate Health and Safety regulations.
  • Maintain good communication with key personnel at all times ie committee, playing captains/managers and members of the ground committee.
- 'Handy person' skill set.

  • Experience of preparing and maintaining sports pitches.
  • Up to date DBS certificate.
  • Valid driving licence.
Preferred

  • Two years' experience of preparing and maintaining cricket squares and football pitches.
  • PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates.
