Employment - Full time (term-time basis)

Location - Swindon

Closing Date for Applications - Monday 9th January 2023

Salary is £23,000 FTE per annum, with benefits including 26 days holiday per year (FTE)

The recruitment process is currently open and ongoing.

Our vision is a world in which everyone can realise their potential and lead society into a healthy, equitable future.

The young people we work with develop curiosity, tenacity and creativity, helping them grow a deep understanding of who they want to be, and how they will make this a reality - now and in their futures.

We achieve this through delivery of coaching, workshops, university and employer insights, and online courses.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a Progression Coach, who will work with a cohort of Future Leaders in Swindon, supporting and coaching them to identify purpose and values, and a route to achieve their ambitions.

You will report into the Assistant Director, Swindon and be part of a team working locally.

Villiers Park Educational Trust is a hybrid-working organisation, so whilst much of this role is delivered in the region you will have remote contact with other teams in Cambridge, Norwich, Hastings and Tyneside.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver onetoone and group coaching sessions with young people according to their schedule and the Future Leaders Programme
  • Undertake short responsive coaching sessions, as required by the young people we work with, normally in school but also occasionally online with suitable safeguarding requirements in place
  • Support young people with developing realistic and meaningful ambitions that reflect their abilities, strengths and capacities, and a clear plan of how to realise them by engaging in conversations about their future academic and employment skills (both short and long term)
  • Keep appropriate records of discussions with students for future review and evaluation, contributing to the development of the programme
  • Participate in the 'Leadership Challenge' initiative, encouraging and guiding students to undertake independent activities
  • Raise any safeguarding issues to the safeguarding lead, and liaise where required with school and college contacts to raise and resolve outstanding issues or concerns with individual students
  • Contribute to the development of the Future Leaders programme, including curriculum content and online resources
  • Development, coordination and delivery of group activities within the programme as directed by the Assistant Director
  • Contribute to the organisation of and attend Future Leaders launch and celebration events
  • Support and deliver activities as part of residential or other intensive courses, including providing occasional overnight residential supervision
  • Participate in training and the sharing of best practice opportunities as well as supporting the development of your peers and providing guidance to new staff
  • Undertake other duties or activities which may be necessary to achieve programme or organisational objectives or are required by your line manager.
  • This list is not exhaustive and the postholder will be required to undertake other tasks relevant to the role and within their capability_

Skill Requirements

  • An interest in and commitment to social mobility and youth development
  • Passionate about improving the learning experience of young people in schools and colleges
  • Ability to empathise with young people, to be understanding, and be able to support young people to find their own solutions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills across a range of audiences
- ability to adapt communication style with students, parents and teachers

  • Ability and willingness to present to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also independently and autonomously
  • Is highly organised and thorough with ability to work to deadlines

Experience

  • Experience of working with and supporting young people from a range of backgrounds
  • Experience of working in the education or charity sector is desirable

Other requirements

  • Flexibility in working hours to suit the post requirements including occasional evening and overnight work.
  • Driving licence and own transport desirable.

Working Pattern
The role will be offered on a term-time only basis and can be either full-time or part time.

As noted above, much of this role is delivered in Swindon.

On occasion, we will require staff to travel to various other locations (e.g., London, Birmingham or Cambridge) for face-to-face team meetings and activity.
