We are looking to recruit Maternity Care Assistants to become part of the team at the Leicester Royal Infirmary Maternity departments.

Both full and part time posts are available on an internal rotation, this means a mixture of days, nights and weekend shifts, to meet the needs of the service.

The standardized hours of work for the hospital are as follows:

  • Long days 07:00 19:30
  • Nights 19:0007:30
Interview day will include meeting the education team to gather more information on opportunities for career progression.

Maternity Care Assistant (MCA) will also be available to give further insight into the role, along with an opportunity for a quick tour of the unit.


As a Maternity Care Assistant, you'll provide vital support to all healthcare professionals in caring for patients during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.


You will be responsible for, delivering from the front line supporting our patients with everything from cleaning equipment, personal hygiene and washing through to observations, supporting breastfeeding and assisting within theatres.


A caring and supportive nature is an essential pre-requisite along with the ability to take direction and use your own initiative to deliver patient centred care.


In addition to effective interpersonal and communication skills, you will be adept at both working as part of a team.

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: )

  • Provide clinical and non clinical support to the multi professional team under the direction and supervision of an appropriate Registered Health Care Professional.
  • Deliver direct and indirect care as delegated under the direction and supervision of an appropriate Registered Health Care Professional.
  • Undertake specific duties involving direct and indirect care as identified by the multi professional team to support the delivery of effective healthcare to patients/ service users.
  • Assist with the maintenance of a clean and safe environment adhering to infection control policies procedures and best practice.
  • Assist and maintain safe and hazard free area of work.
  • Act in a professional manner and adhere to the UHL uniform policy.
