Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom Tractebel Engineering S.p.A. Full time

About Tractebel

Tractebel is a global community of 5000 imaginative experts engineering a carbon-neutral future. Through our game-changing solutions for complex energy, urban, nuclear and water projects, we help our clients create a positive impact towards a sustainable world, where people, planet and profit collectively thrive.

Work environment

You will join a recently created TRACTEBEL entity with very ambitious goals and exceptional projects. Created to support projects localised in the UK, the entity's mission is to promote TRACTEBEL as a key player of the nuclear business in the UK.

You will be part of a dynamic, highly motivated and multicultural team. This position is a great opportunity for you to develop your professional and personal skills and work on globally recognised projects.

You will work within a team in charge of the engineering and design of the metallic structures (PTLS: pools, tanks, liners and sumps) necessary to the leak tightness and containment of the nuclear island systems and structures, in the framework of the construction of new nuclear power plants (Hinkley Point C).

Job profile

As a PTLS Mechanical Engineer you will ensure the technical direction and coordination between all the stakeholders involved in the PTLS design and construction (the designers, the client and the contractors):

  • You manage the structural integrity assessment activity of PTLS for new build nuclear power plants.
  • You deal with the requests raised by the contractors during the nuclear plant construction (i.e., requests for information, field change requests and non-conformance reports) with the support of the back-office if necessary.
  • You prepare the technical response document to the requests, ensuring the respect of quality and delays.
  • You assist the client in meetings and technical discussions.
  • You conduct the technical and commercial follow-up of the back-offices and act as a SPOC between the client and the back-office.
  • You check and validate all the PTLS deliverables (calculation reports, drawings) produced by the back-office.
  • You ensure the coordination with other disciplines (civils, layout, equipment, etc.).
  • You report to the PTLS team leader.
  • You perform possible temporary missions in France and/or Belgium or assignments to our client's integrated team.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Education: A mechanical engineering degree (MSc/ MEng) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; Achieved or working towards Chartership (CEng).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in structural analysis and design of mechanical components, preferably within metallic structures in the nuclear industry.
  • Skills:

o You are familiar with international codes and standards (Eurocodes, RCC-M, ASME).

o You are experienced in general purpose finite element and structural design software (such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, SYSTUS...) for static or dynamic loading, linear or non-linear analysis.

o You have a sound knowledge of steel structures and connection design (welds), material behaviour, finite elements analysis and general mechanical design.

o You are able to understand and interpret calculation reports and mechanical design drawings.

o You have notions of reinforced concrete behaviour/design.

o You are proficient in drafting technical documents.

o You are proficient in English language. Knowledge of French is a plus.

  • Personal attributes: you are methodical, conscientious, organized, team-player, innovative, client-oriented.

As a TRACTEBEL employee, you will benefit from:

  • Opportunity for a quick career progression in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Autonomy and flexible work patterns.
  • Competitive salary and annual bonus scheme.
  • Complementary trainings to develop your skills inside our team.
  • Professional membership subscriptions - subscription fees for one relevant professional institute per annum.
  • Support towards attaining chartership
  • Employee assistance programme supporting physical, mental, and financial wellbeing.
  • Generous holiday allowance of 28 days plus bank holidays.
  • International career evolution.
