Commodity Manager

This role sits at the heart of delivering our 'Winning in Food' corporate strategy.

As a business we have ambitious plans to delight customers by delivering transformation in our proposition, cost base reductions & an ambitious Plan for Better agenda.

The Commodity Manager will deliver actionable insights to our buying teams, drive industry leading commodity risk management strategies and deliver change through project-based work.

Our Commodities Team is a small but growing centre of expertise in our Food Commercial division.

We have a clear purpose to provide insights and strategies that can step on our food trading P&Ls through better management of our commodity exposures and helping our trading teams in data led negotiation with suppliers.


As a Commodity Manager you'll:
Provide insight and expertise across the business on commodity markets within our supply chain
Lead of the development, rollout & BAU management of commodity risk strategies across our largest commodity exposures
Design and implement robust buying models that aid in future negotiations and ways of working with our supply base
Business partner the Buyers, Category Managers and other relevant teams in dealing with complex stakeholder and supplier requests
Build strong relationships with external stakeholders across the commodities market
Source, analyse and effectively communicate complex commodity data from both internal and external sources to less technical audiences
Keep up to date with commodity markets and become the go to person for your area of expertise
Spot opportunities to deliver improvements to internal business processes that help the trading teams deal with movements in commodity markets
Take on ad hoc project work to support the business in management of commodity exposures
Work with the Head of Strategic Sourcing and wider commodity team to evolve and drive the commodity risk management strategy for food

Our Commodities team would love to see:

Experience of working in a commercial environment and prior experience in commodity markets through the physical trade, financial markets, corporate procurement and research
Experience analysing and communicating physical commodity premiums, break-evens, building trade flows and supply & demand models.
Knowledge of how to build cost stacks to generate additional transparency and visibility for stakeholders
Knowledge of food buying models and experience in creating, developing and managing them
Fun, positive mindset and great at working collaboratively in a high performing team
Exposure to supplier facing conversations & able to convey complex messages to a broad range of stakeholders
Strong Excel & PowerPoint skills
Curiosity to challenge the status quo and drive to deliver change and overcome blockers along the way
Natural leadership style and able to quickly build credibility with stakeholders
Comfortable giving and receiving feedback to support your own personal development and others in the business
