Role of a Solicitor at the Hospital Inquiry
The Scottish Hospital Inquiry is on the lookout for a Solicitor to be part of a major and high-profile Public Inquiry. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to enhance your skills by contributing to a complex capital health project. The selected candidate will gain valuable insights into project management, contractual relationships, and the significant impact of decisions on the health and well-being of the Scottish population.
Main Responsibilities
- Prepare working papers by identifying and recovering evidence, reviewing recovered evidence to develop further lines of enquiry, questioning documents, and identifying witnesses.
- Collaborate with the inquiry team and legal representatives to prepare witness statements.
- Coordinate with Counsel on progress of lines of enquiry and witness statements for oral hearings.
- Support Counsel and team members during oral hearings, including drafting and ensuring compliance with inquiry procedures and protocols.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality legal advice with attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Qualified as a Scottish Solicitor with an active practising certificate.
- Proven track record of working effectively in legal teams, showcasing flexibility in problem-solving while maintaining a constructive attitude.
- Resilience and dedication to delivering high-quality work within set deadlines and amidst competing priorities.

Location and Compensation
This position is based in Central Edinburgh with occasional travel to Glasgow. The role follows a hybrid working model with three days expected in the office each week. The daily rate for this position is £294 on a 12-month contract basis.
