Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced governance environment where you will be able to make a real difference in your community? We have a great opportunity to join our team as our Governance and Standards Officer.


This is a central role within our team, supporting statutory officers and working with the senior leadership teams from both Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to ensure decision making is timely and transparent.


You will work with senior leaders to implement our governance framework, ensuring the transparency and accessibility of our decision making for the public.

You will work across the wider team to support our complaint handling function, setting high standards and delivering an excellent service for the public.


If you are highly organised, have experience and understanding of governance arrangements and want to make a difference working with our emergency services then this could be the role for you.


Experience and understanding of the importance of implementing robust corporate governance arrangements, ideally within a local government or otherwise political environment.


Demonstrable experience of robust information management practice, including gathering, handling, communicating and storing both electronic and paper-based information and documentation.


Highly effective at planning and organising, managing a wide and varied workload, prioritising and managing competing demands and deadlines whilst still maintaining high standards.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

We would also be interested in applicants who can evidence:
Sound understanding of complaints handling processes and principles.

Prior experience of using a website content management system (advantageous but not essential).

Highly literate and effective communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.

Ability to work competently and confidently both as part of a team and under own initiative.


The role will offer some flexibility in terms of place of work, including some home working and the extent of flexibility will be agreed through individual assessment with the line manager.
