Job Summary


The post holder will act as an advocate for residents of Palm Cove Society and contribute to a reduction of the social, personal and health inequalities they may experience.

The post holder will also advocate for residents, empower and encourage them with daily routines and activities.

The Post holder will also assist to access benefit entitlement, health care provision, move on accommodation, educational services and address any other identified areas of need.

The aim is to enable residents to successfully integrate into the community and go on to lead successful healthy lives.


Working Environment
Itis a requirement that the post holder is able to work independently in an office and community setting.

The post holder needs to be aware of and adhere to security procedures to facilitate effective risk management strategies that ensure the safety of self and others.


The post holder may be exposed to highly sensitive and confidential information, which has the potential to be distressing and traumatic for both self and other members of staff.

The post holder therefore requires the ability to be reflective regarding practice and to engage in relevant team meetings, and where appropriate access support and supervision from senior members of staff.


The post holder requires the ability to sit and concentrate for prolonged periods to undertake necessary research, preparation and administrative work.


The post holder is also required to be pro-active in developing professional networks and links with relevant external statutory and non-government organisations (NGO's).

In addition, on occasion, there may be a requirement to accompany a resident to London or another city.

Knowledge Skills and Experience

Knowledge

  • Social care or other health/education professional training or relevant experience.
  • Educated to graduate level is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of a range of national and local policies surrounding modern slavery, the asylum process and issues in relation to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
  • An understanding of the difficulties experienced by asylum, refugees and migrants.
  • An understanding of the difficulties experienced by individuals fleeing domestic abuse
  • An understanding of the difficulties experienced by victims of modern slavery and human trafficking.
  • An understanding of the difficulties experienced by individuals fleeing forced marriage or honour based violence.
  • An understanding of the needs of unaccompanied asylum seekers leaving the care service
  • An understanding of services promoting social, personal and health awareness.
  • An understanding surrounding equality and diversity
  • An understanding of community development and integration processes.
  • An understanding of supported and generic housing provision.

Skills

  • Ability to empower individuals.
  • Ability to empathise and seek solutions to problems faced by residents.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and compare a range of options in order to meet topical needs and targets.
  • The ability to work autonomously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate findings effectively.
  • Ability to cultivate professional working relationships with residents and the local population.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective communications with external agencies.
  • Ability to research and evaluate information.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to use computer effectively, including the use of Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
  • Willingness to continue to develop own professional skills and experiences through appropriate professional development opportunities e.g. training courses, conferences and reading.
  • Where appropriate ability to use own initiative and assist with general/cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with team members and other external agencies.

Experience

  • Experience of working with victims of modern slavery, domestic abuse, forced marriage, asylum seekers and refugees.
  • Experience of working with traumatised victims of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced marriage and other communities in a range of settings.
  • Experience of collaboration and partnership working with statutory and Non-Government Organisations.
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency environment.
  • Experience of working autonomously.
  • Experience of ability to plan and prioritise own workload.
  • Experience of representing the organisation at multi agency meetings
  • Ability to work with individuals with challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to work with individuals addicted to drugs or alcohol.
