Bournemouth Housing First is dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness in Bournemouth, Poole, and Christchurch. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a new service launching in June and contribute to its setup and operation.

If you have a passion for assisting others and are seeking a dynamic role to enhance your skills, then this position is perfect for you.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a caseload of clients, offering individual support within the community and at their residences.
  • Create tailored support plans based on clients' needs to help them achieve their objectives.
  • Collaborate with outreach workers and other organizations to establish relationships and trust with homeless clients, preparing them for securing their accommodation.
  • Facilitate clients' access to appointments and act as a bridge to services to enhance their overall well-being.
  • Identify and nurture clients' strengths to promote positive and lasting behavioral and lifestyle changes.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and lone working procedures.
  • Assist clients in obtaining entitled benefits and address harmful behaviors to sustain their housing or transition from the streets.
  • Support clients in managing substance misuse, encourage personal development through education, employment, or volunteering, and enhance practical skills like budgeting and housekeeping.
  • Collaborate with external partners to maximize reintegration opportunities for clients into the community.
  • Maintain accurate client records, adhere to Health and Safety regulations, and follow organizational policies.
  • Develop an understanding of Housing First principles and adopt a client-focused approach.
  • Stay unbiased, prioritize clients' goals over societal expectations, and engage in necessary supervision, training, and meetings.
  • Remain flexible across all operational areas and perform additional tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING

Prior experience in this field is not mandatory, but a genuine interest in supporting homeless individuals is crucial. Training in Housing First principles will be provided, but familiarity with the support model is beneficial. Your values should align with ours, showcasing a commitment to helping others and finding fulfillment in this role.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in IT and keyboard usage.
  • Polite, assertive demeanor with self-motivation.
  • Enthusiasm for customer-facing roles.
  • Knowledge of benefits systems and tenancy laws.
  • Compassion for homelessness-related matters.

  • Knowledge of best practices in supporting individuals with substance abuse or mental health issues.
  • Requirement: Possession of a valid driving license and access to a car.
