Job Title: Peer Support Worker at South Lanarkshire Council

The Social Work Resources department aims to enhance social welfare by delivering efficient care and support to vulnerable individuals in South Lanarkshire.

In collaboration with various partners, including community planners, voluntary organizations, and independent providers, we provide a range of services to enhance the health and social well-being of our service users.

Requirements:

  • An exciting opportunity is available within South Lanarkshire Council's Justice Services for a Peer Support Worker with personal experience in substance use and recovery on a full-time basis in our Unpaid Work Service.
  • This role emphasizes the council's dedication to integrating individuals with personal experiences into Justice Social Work Services, aiming to enhance the support provided to individuals with substance use challenges who struggle to comply with community-based sentences.
  • The successful candidate will work towards assisting individuals in engaging with Unpaid Work and Other Activity Orders mandated by the Court, supporting recovery, facilitating access to suitable treatment and community activities, and promoting long-term desistance from offending, ultimately enhancing their well-being and life opportunities.
  • The ideal candidate must possess organizational and time management skills, thrive under pressure, and demonstrate flexibility as the role may require occasional weekend and late-hour work to support service users.

Responsibilities:

Foreign Police Check: Candidates must disclose any employment gaps and provide a foreign police check for periods spent living or working abroad.

Legislative Information: This position falls under the exceptions listed in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order.

Regulated Work with Protected Adults: This role is classified as Regulated Work with Protected Adults, as per the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. Hence, individuals barred from working with protected adults must not apply.
