The CTS Group comprising c.900 employees is a market leading provider of construction related testing, inspection and compliance services in the UK, with operations/offices across the UK.
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety and Environmental Advisor to join the group and hit the ground running.
In your new role you will be responsible for improving the HSE culture, implementing Group HSE policies, managing HSE systems, driving behavioural change and improving employee competence.
- Practical experience of conducting and reporting internal audits, identifying departures from standard procedures and appropriate containment measures and corrective actions within suitable timeframes.
- Completion of a professional qualification in occupational health & safety, NCRQ, NEBOSH IRCA Internal Auditor
- Ability to interact with staff at all levels and to provide guidance and support both orally and through written reports.
- A willingness to learn and develop personally and professionally in understanding occupational health and safety, quality and environmental management systems
Responsibilities will include:
- To implement practical and effective methods, both proactive and reactive, promoting health and safety and safe working practices in the workplace.
- To manage and maintain an effective schedule of work activity and premises audits covering health and safety and environmental performance throughout the company's facilities and operations
- To record and report on good practice and departure from standard procedures, identifying root cause, containment measures and corrective actions and following up actions taken to verify that corrective action has been effectively implemented.
- To review work activities and establish that all relevant work activity risks and hazards have been identified and minimized as far as reasonably practicable, that risk assessments and environmental assessments are relevant, up to date, approved, have been briefed to staff and available at point of work for all activities and locations.
- To carry out investigations into all accidents and nearmiss incidents and to record the findings, identify trends and provide advice to management to avoid recurrences or escalation.
- To assist in development of appropriate method statements and construction phase plans
- To provide advice and review the implementation of appropriate systems to ensure that matters relating to facilities management within the Materials Testing laboratories and offices are addressed within timescales relevant to cost and inline with all statutory, regulatory and company requirements.
- To provide guidance to operational staff on how to comply with legislative and regulatory requirements covering all work activities.
- To recommend and advise on first aid and fire safety representatives for all sites
- To recommend and advise on the standard of P.P.E. issued to employees
- To review the skills and competencies of staff performing technical activities
- To review equipment against PUWER and verify the suitability of the equipment and the effectiveness of the processes for which it is being used
- To advise on any regulations relevant to the company's work activities and facilities
- To promote and maintain a strong harmony and morale throughout the company's offices and laboratories.
