Description of the Hand Departments

There are currently 17 Hand surgeons across the two trusts where the post is based.

Previously there were two surgeons solely at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, three surgeons who worked cross site and the remaining twelve work in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

At present, due to a temporary reconfiguration during the pandemic, all surgeons have elective footprints at the Royal Orthopaedic hospital.

Within the team, 10 consultants are of an Orthopaedic background and 7 are from a Plastic surgical background.

This post has been created due to the backlog of Hand elective work created by the pandemic and the reduction of hours to part time of one of the cross-site working orthopaedic hand surgeons.

The Hand surgeons that currently work and have an elective footprint at the Royal Orthopaedic hospital are:
Mr Mark Brewster, Mr Rajive Jose, Mr Mike Craigen and Professor Subodh Deshmukh.

The Spasticity surgeons that currently work and have an elective footprint at the Royal Orthopaedic hospital are:
Mr Ed Bache, Mr Andrew Gaffey
