Typically 12 to 18 months

Occupation Profile
Port Operators have key roles in enabling the business to deliver on time and safely.

Cargo can include any goods imported to, or exported from the UK, such as steel products, manufactured goods, raw materials, bulk and bagged products, timber products etc, and the work they do depends on the type of vessel and/or cargo.

Port Operators will be required to perform a wide range of duties such as, but not limited to,

  • Operate in line with the relevant risk assessment & safe system of work
  • Loading, unloading, handling and securing cargo
  • Warehousing and storage including checking, marking and despatching cargo
  • Workplace transport operations including driving and controlling vehicle movements
  • Operate heavy machinery such as large FLT's, frontloading shovels and reach stackers
  • Operate specialist equipment such as quayside cranes, harbour mobile cranes, ships cranes and material handlers
  • Work on board any type and size of vessel typically within a team under the direction of a Supervisor
  • Working hours may include unsocial hours and include shift and weekend working
  • You will interact directly with customers and thirdparty suppliers and are required to demonstrate a high degree of customer care
