Overview of Key Responsibilities


Your principal role will be to feed your knowledge and experience of improving children's reading habits and literacy levels in schools into Sparx' product development and strategy to ensure we build, scale and support literacy and reading programmes that transform children's learning.


Specific responsibilities will therefore include:

  • Working with the Reader team to increase commercial awareness of Sparx Reader and Sparx products, utilising the expertise of our team and key professionals within this space;
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders such as teachers and school leaders and Multi Academy Trusts which are based on collaboration and open feedback;
  • Collating feedback from schools who are using our products, which can be used to inform creative decisions and targeted support;
  • Collaborating with crossfunctional teams such as Marketing, Design and Product;
  • Overseeing the production of quality content that teachers can rely on to provide a high level of support to students;
  • Collating accurate literacy data, with the support of our Insights team, which can be shared with schools and used to make informed and impactful decisions regarding our products;
  • Communicating with the Senior Management Team and the Board of Directors around key priorities concerning the direction of our literacy products.

You will have:

  • Extensive secondary school experience with a deep understanding of literacy and reading;
  • Experience of effectively training other staff members within a secondary school, and acting in a leadership or thought leadership capacity;
  • Experience of forming and nurturing trusting and honest relationships with teachers and school leaders;
  • Experience employing best evidencebased practice in reading in school;
  • Extensive experience working with school leaders such as headteachers and Multi Academy Trusts;
  • Extensive knowledge of the national and GCSE curricula for English;
  • Examples of being able to successfully implement and embed reading strategies in school;
  • An understanding of literacy data and how to disseminate this to specialists and nonspecialists of literacy;
  • Up to date knowledge of literacy and reading research and how this is impacting national priorities in secondary schools.
