Job Summary

The Royal Free Emergency Department is dedicated to providing excellent care for patients and their families. Are you up for a challenge? We are searching for experienced Band 5 Adult Nurses to join our expanding team. Ideally, candidates should have a minimum of 6 months' experience in critical care settings.

The Royal Free Emergency Department handles approximately 32,000 adult patients annually. We have a dedicated area and resuscitation space within the department. The Urgent Care center in the ED collaborates with GPs to offer a prompt and efficient service.

We are focused on establishing a modern career framework for our nurses in the Emergency Department, supported by our Clinical Practice Education and senior team. You will receive guidance at every step of your Emergency career, with opportunities for both in-house training and external courses to enhance your ED-specific skill set.

Job Responsibilities

CLINICAL:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate personalized patient care within the established frameworks, ensuring safe discharge arrangements in alignment with trust values.
  • Coordinate clinical activities within the team.
  • Adhere to clinical standards, monitoring care quality to uphold the highest standards in line with trust and CQC guidelines.
  • Administer medication safely following Trust medicine policy.
  • Support patients in understanding and adhering to their medication regimen, provide health promotion, and illness prevention advice.
  • Engage in patient and family education.
  • Evaluate care effectiveness and take necessary actions, including liaising with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Undertake relevant clinical or non-clinical functions as per banding.
  • Recognize and address situations potentially affecting individual health and well-being.
  • Collaborate with and support team members.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and losses, and offer initial support following trust policy.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by the department/ward manager or senior nurse within their capacity.

MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP:

  • Manage a patient group based on experience level.
  • Supervise unqualified staff under the direction of the Nurse in Charge.
  • Lead the department if required in the absence of senior staff.
  • Demonstrate effective time management and workload prioritization.
  • Contribute to onboarding and training new staff.
  • Orient and educate pre and post-registration students, serving as a preceptor and mentor.
  • Show leadership and teaching abilities in guiding and developing junior staff.
  • Guide junior staff and students in procedures and supervise their practice.

COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING:

  • Utilize World Class Care values in all interactions with patients, carers, and staff.
  • Ensure effective communication and appropriate nursing input in patient care discussions.

Experience

  • Post-registration experience in an acute hospital environment.
  • Proven clinical experience in the relevant field.

  • Ability to leverage pre-registration experience to showcase understanding of applicable settings.
