Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Peer Support Lead to join the Cardiff & Vale MHCB.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Peer Support Worker, and have the necessary skills and experience to lead Peer Support Practice and supervise Peers in community and in-patient settings.

The MHCB Peer lead will be supervised by the Strategic Lead for Lived Experience Workforce and Recovery College and will regularly collaborate and co-reflect with the Recovery College Peer Lead, Operational Lead, and Co-Production Lead.

Leading on project management, development and evaluation of new and existing Peer Support Work, the successful candidate will have direct responsibility for developing and supporting our MHCB Peer Support Team through appraisal, supervision, induction, training, and education. The Peer Lead will support, train and advise clinical teams in preparation for recruitment and on-going development and support of Peer Support Workers.

The MHCB Peer Lead will work directly with service users as a Peer Support Worker and work as a Peer Trainer in the Recovery College, co-designing and delivering Peer Support training and teaching established models of Peer Support.

The MHCB Peer Lead is responsible for the implementation of Lived Experience Strategy and governance in relation to Peer Support Workforce, deputising for the Strategic lead as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist advice, leadership and direction to The MH Clinical and the development of peer support To hold responsibility for education and training within the MH Clinical Board and the Recovery College and to coordinate provision by multidisciplinary staff, service users, carers and multiagency providers. With support from the Mental Health Clinical Board develop the policies and procedures to enable the safe running of Peer Support across a range of venues. To provide leadership across the Peer Support Team including responsibility for appraisal, supervision, induction, training and education. To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of peer workforce holding responsibility for defined projects. To contribute to the maintenance and development of UHB wide Recovery College. To work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and with voluntary organizations, local authority and other appropriate health and social care sectors to negotiate peer work provision across all levels of mental health provision.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

Will hold a relevant qualification at degree level or equivalent. Evidence of recent formal training/ learning and continued professional development at a higher level, supplemented by short specialist courses Recovery-focused and peer support related training activities. Evidence of specialist post-graduate education or equivalent experience. Able to demonstrate commitment to Continuing Professional Development Masters

Desirable

Post-graduate qualifications in an area of relevance to the educational environment of a recovery college and the clinical settings in which the college may operate. Published articles or research. Holds professional registration as awarded by the Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or similar. Educational Qualification. Management qualification

Experience

Essential

Experience in managing resources financial, stock, equipment etc. Lived experience of mental health challenges and of using mental health services. Experience of change strategies. Experience of supervising and appraising staff (individual and group) Experience of recruitment. Experience of delivering training and presentations. Experience of and commitment to co-production. Inter-professional and multi-agency team working within both voluntary and statutory services.

Desirable

Experience in managing complex HR issues with staff the management of performance / long term sickness. Experience in budget management. Experience in Strategy development and delivery. Experience in guidelines and policy development. Post qualification experience working in mental health services (statutory or voluntary sector). Experience as a Peer Support Worker or Peer Support trainer. Experience in participating in audit/evaluation / research projects. Experience of workforce planning. Team Leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
