About the Role:

Boughton Surgery is looking for a highly motivated individual who is willing to be trained as a full time GP Practice Dispenser.

Job summary:

  • The role entails dealing with patient enquiries facetoface and by telephone.
  • To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice.
  • In line with our Standard Operating Procedures, you will be preparing repeat prescriptions, in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription.
  • Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the NHS Prescription Services for processing and reimbursement.
  • To handle stock levels and ensure all drugs are stored in an appropriate manner
This is a demanding and challenging position in a constantly changing health environment.

You will play an integral part in managing dispensing workloads accurately and safely and ensuring high standards of dispensing practises are upheld and delivered each day.


  • Main Duties:
  • To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the principles of good practice.
  • To adhere to the strictest confidentiality when handling medical records and other information, pertaining to patients.
  • To project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.
  • To build productive relationships with all work colleagues and other key external personnel.


You should be able to demonstrate excellent customer service, IT, administration and communications skills, along with attention to detail, who is committed to promoting and providing excellent patient centred services.

The successful applicant will gain an NVQ 2 Dispenser qualification funded by the Practice.

You should enjoy working within a team with the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.

The Dispensary team consists of 1 Dispensary Manager and 5 x part time Dispensers.

The team are fully supported and managed by the GP Dispensing Lead Dispensary Manager and Practice Manager to ensure a safe and compliant environment.
