Electrical Building Services Engineer - Technical Author

As Technical Author you will be an established construction professional and will use your extensive industry experience and knowledge to review, research, develop and author electrical building services engineering specification content and guidancefor products.

Your new role

  • Review existing authored specification content, and update or restructure content to ensure that it reflects changes in standards, building codes, industry practice, and technologies.
  • Ensure that feedback from customers is considered and assessed to support or influence the changes and development to specification content.
  • Work with the wider business and product management teams to ensure customer engagement in largescale changes, or developments to specification content.
  • Research technical issues and developments, liaising as necessary with standards, regulations, and other publishers, professional associations, research organizations, trade organizations, manufacturers, consultants, and subscribers.
  • Use digital tools to plan and forecast content updates.
  • Ensure that content updates and development are meeting Technical Team KPIs.
  • Work with members of the Technical Team to integrate and coordinate technical specifications, and manufacturer material.
  • Work with manufacturer information teams to ensure consistency of information and terminology.
  • Support the manufacturer information teams with customer queries, mapping products to specification content, and authoring content to support manufacturers.
  • Support the research and development of new specification content sets as required, in accordance with the company strategy.
  • Maintain knowledge and technical awareness through continuing professional development and disseminate this information throughout the Technical Team and wider business where applicable.
  • Provide content for articles on the company website.
  • Write sample specifications for use by the Customer Engagement/ Training teams.
  • Peerreview work by other technical authors as required. Support
  • Contribute to marketing and business development activities such as newsletters, websites, blogs, and Events where required.
  • Contribute to training and education activities, such as seminars and presentations.
  • Provide technical support to subscribers, manufacturers, and internal teams.
  • Represent the company at internal and external meetings and events.
  • Share industry knowledge and best practices with the wider business.
  • Contribute to the development of new products and the ongoing development of existing products.
  • The job holder may also be asked to undertake other duties outside of this job description that is commensurate with their skills and experience, including tasks delegated by the UK Technical content manager and other management staff.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Degree in a constructionrelated discipline (electrical building services engineering).
  • Comprehensive construction project experience.
  • Experience in writing construction industry documentation.
  • Knowledge and experience in writing and managing project specifications.
  • Understanding of prescriptive and performance specifications for a variety of project types.
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry standards and Building Regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience of BIM in practice.
  • Precise, comprehensive, and technically accurate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and offer guidance on complex constructionrelated issues and legislation.
  • Able to produce wellstructured, clear, concise text with excellent spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent teamworking skills.
  • Can work to Agile principles and adapt to change.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and quality assurance.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, including goal setting and assessment of the impact of the activity.
