As an apprentice HGV Technician at Walkers Transport you will work under the instruction of qualified technical staff to learn and gain an understanding of all aspects of an HGV Technician role.


Your career will begin by:

  • Learning the fundamentals of Heavy Vehicle technologies
  • Heavy Vehicle chassis, engines, fuels, transmissions, hydraulics, air braking, electrical systems, and testing.
  • Learning how to service, maintain and repair a range of different light and heavy commercial vehicles including vans, trucks, trailers and ancillary equipment
  • Ensure all job cards and service sheets are completed in a timely manner and keeping a through record.
  • Working alongside a team of qualified Technician/Mentor learning how to carry out repairs according to manufacturer's instructions in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Liaise with parts departments to identify and order parts, represent Walkers Transport in a professional and courteous manner when dealing with customers and Drivers.
  • Your enthusiasm and work ethic will be rewarded with a fulltime permanent position upon completion of your apprenticeship.
  • Grade 4/C in maths and English or equivalent qualifications are desirable (applicants who do not meet the criteria above will be assessed by a college representative and complete further maths and English diagnostics)
Walkers Transport are experts in transport, Logistics and Warehousing. As part of our ongoing commitment to vehicle and workshop compliance we work with Truckfile management/software programs. As an Apprentices you will be required to attend College/training provider on a day release basis. More information on our day release will be explained throughout the recruitment process.
