The Role

The purpose of this role is to assess the medical, demographic, and lifestyle risk factors provided by customers, intermediaries and medical professionals; and provide accurate underwriting terms.

As a Senior, we are looking for an individual to act as an SME, providing technical medical underwriting and mentoring support to colleagues and the Customer Services area.


You would do this through:

  • Making sound, risk based underwriting decisions in accordance with underwriting guidelines and personal levels of authority
  • Initiate and lead projects and business transformation for underwriting deliverables
  • Review and assess underwriting information on quotation requests and provide accurate risk based decision
  • Provide technical and project support to the Medical Underwriting objectives
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of underwriting bases
Within this role, you would have the opportunity to be involved in a number of exciting projects. Examples include- Medical evidence review - considering/analysing/updating the amount, type and timing of medical evidence we obtain- Medical evidence audit of a third-party provider that we use- Anti-selection review - analysis of client disclosure vs GP disclosure;- Input into new system development - an outside viewpoint on system design best practice, from an underwriting perspective

Skills and Experience- Medical underwriting experience within the financial services sector, ideally Care, Pensions and Equity Release Proven ability to interpret and present data effectively- Understanding of the requirements for writing business in the retirement market- Strong research and analytical skills with expertise in manipulating data using Microsoft Excel
