Job Details General Foreman - UK Civil Engineering Division. Colchester

Role
We are recruiting for a Freelance General Foreman to join our UK Civils Division in the South on our National Highways Concrete Road Framework in Colchester. You will be responsible for supervising the works on a section of the site as instructed by the Works Manager and Site Agent, overseeing sub-contractors.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have awareness of the daily activities requiring completion to achieve the target programme. Awareness of the sub-contractors RAM's & COSHH assessments and monitors that the works are carried out in accordance with them. Make other trades aware of the above – especially if there are any specific COSHH considerations. Monitor safety and quality – stopping any dangerous operations and questions anything that does not look right with the sub-contractors site manager bringing their concerns to the Works Manager's attention. Assist the Works Manager with the weekly safety inspections and collects weekly inspection sheets from the sub-contractors. Work closely with the Engineering Team and review all drawings and details on an ongoing basis. Understand and manage an element of the attendances/prelims

You will manage a number of Trainee Foremen/Assistant Supervisors and Operatives, assist with co-ordination of the site logistics and the co-ordination and distribution of materials to the various work fronts – making sub-contractors aware of site hazards e.g. shallow drains, overhead cables and suspended slab weight restrictions. You will advise Assistant Site Managers of plant and material requirements in good time to suit the programme and identify when small plant and equipment is no longer required and with agreement with the Works Manager off hires plant.

As a General Foreman you will carry out spot dimensional checking of works, bringing any discrepancies to the Works Manager attention. Stop works that are not being carried out safely or to the correct standard – issuing NCR's for works that are not compliant. Work with the Works Manager to inspect sub-contractors work and sign it off when it is to an acceptable standard. Assist with the waste removal and the policing of the waste being put into the appropriate waste skips. Ensure that the site hoarding is maintained and that the access and egress is kept clean with particular attention paid to plant /operative segregation and that all walkways are kept clean and tidy with good lighting to prevent slips, trips and falls. Assist with the preparation of progress reports and advise the Assistant Site Manager on a daily basis of the day's progress to assist them with the daily diary - recording the daily progress, numbers of operatives, any safety issues/near misses, weather, identifying shortfalls with labour, plant & materials and any issues that have affected the day's progress.

Experience & Skills Working on multiple projects and sectors with technical and logistical delivery challenges Experience in the management of construction from a HSEQS perspective Good understanding of the project logistics and programme to completion Good working knowledge of the project specification Experience managing a team of operatives Qualifications & Training Working towards an academic and or a professional industry related qualification Site Management Safety Training (SMSTS) CSCS card First Aid TWS Manual Handling Site Management Toolbox Training.
