S-camhs Substance Misuse Team Lead

2 weeks ago

Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom Hywel Dda University Health Board Full time

Our newly formed S-CAMHS Substance Use Team builds on the strength of our existing work with young people at risk of, or experiencing, substance misuse and mental health difficulties.

A recent increase in funding has allowed us to expand our work with this vulnerable population to provide increased prevention, early intervention and treatment provision.

The team will be tasked with identifying those most at risk of current and future harm from co-occurring substance use and mental health difficulties.

The team lead will work alongside a clinical psychologist to enable practitioners in the team to engage these young people in evidence informed, assertive outreach work with the aim of building resilience and reducing risk.

This will involve direct work with individual young people, their parents and carers and consultation and liaison with those supporting young people from partner agencies.

The S-CAMHS Substance Use team will work to upskill and build resilience in networks around the families they work with.

The post holder will have significant experience and skills around working with substance misuse and mental health, as well as experience of supervising others and supporting the development of services.

Experience of multi-agency risk management will also be a key skill for any applicants. Please note, this post is open to Mental Health Nurses and Allied Professionals only.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Seven community hospitals:
Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

In leading and managing the team, the post holder will work with others to identify key priorities for the service and ensure these are delivered in a timely and effective way.

This will include coordinating clinical work and monitoring and reporting on activity.

Clinically, the post holder will support the screening of referrals into the service, provide assessments of substance use and mental health needs, provide advice and signposting information and interventions to prevent substance use and mental health difficulties starting or getting worse.

The post holder will develop the capacity of the team to provide consultation, liaison and training to other agencies to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to respond to the mental health and substance use needs young people.
