Main Purpose of Role

  • To carry out metallurgy and routine laboratory testing in accordance with appropriate approved test procedures, international standards and within customer requirements to ensure effective throughput for ongoing projects
  • Ensure all testing is completed within set timescales, with full and accurate recording of results on worksheets and appropriate LIMS package.
  • Support the day to day business requirements for the laboratory, ensuring high standards of housekeeping and equipment is maintained, with issues reported promptly.
  • Perform Round Robin analysis ensuring any failures are recorded and investigated with appropriate action taken.

Key Accountabilities

  • Undertake sample preparation and analysis of metallurgy samples in accordance with appropriate analytical test procedures, to ensure that samples are tested in accordance with client requirements and results are recorded on appropriate LIMS package
  • Process samples within turnaround times agreed with both our internal and external customers to ensure customer satisfaction is maintained
  • Undertake daily logging activities of ongoing tests to ensure delivery of allocated daily tasks within defined timescales to maximise operational outputs and efficiencies.
  • Report equipment/ instrumentation failure to senior staff member to execute remedial action and thereby ensure continuity of service.
  • To verify compliance with specifications and requirements and to immediately draw attention to the laboratory manager of any deviations
  • Develop an appreciation and understanding of laboratory techniques and equipment to assure minimum quality and health and safety requirements are achieved.
  • Assist in booking of samples and raw data entry using SGS LIMS to ensure prompt turnaround on sample analysis.
  • Escalate client enquiries to senior staff member for action/ resolution to ensure timely response and client satisfaction.
  • Identify any training/ competency issues appropriate to development role and seek assistance from senior staff member to enable improvement and minimise potential short falls in skills/ experience in laboratory resource.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Experience of working in a metallurgy/ mechanical testing laboratory,
  • Experience of meeting exacting process and client demands.
  • Experience of QC and compliance
  • GCSE Science/Mathematics/English, or equivalent, grades A to C
  • NVQ or equivalent in Laboratory & associated technical activities
Desirable

  • Experience of working within a UKAS laboratory
  • Degree or equivalent i.e. BSc/HNC/HND in Metallurgy or Mechnical Testing.
