This is a position ideally looking for those who have existing experience of working within Local Government who is able to handle a busy caseload of Childcare matters alongside conducting their own advocacy with professional experience gained within LocalGovernment.


Duties may include:

  • Conducting advocacy before the Family Courts and instruct counsel and the Council's inhouse advocates where appropriate as well as preparation of cases
  • Providing Childcare Public Law advice and undertaking all aspects of Care Proceedings work
  • Attending and advising at meetings across the County attended by professionals, particularly Legal Planning Meetings and PLO meetings and other similar meetings as directed by the Principal Lawyer and/or Assistant Chief Legal Officer
  • Ensuring that decisions made by the client department are lawful and accord with County Council policy
  • Maintaining an awareness of all relevant legislation, policy and regulations, investigate and advise on implications of changing legislation, case law and codes of practice and policy and provide briefing notes and training for colleagues and client officers.
