Summary of position and the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability
We are seeking an Occupational Therapy Art Room Technician to join our Occupational Therapy team at RHN.

You will need to be a motivated individual with art and creative media experience, to support the use of art as both a therapeutic and recreational medium.

This role involves working across a range of specialist units in the Brain Injury Service.

You will be required to prepare and administer therapeutic Occupational Therapy art based programmes as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Main Objectives of the role

  • Demonstrate an awareness of RHN's objectives and contribute to achieving them appropriately.
  • The Occupational Therapy Art Room Technician will be responsible for the day to day running of the OT Art treatment modality room. Working accountably to the Head of OT, the postholder will ensure that an efficient and effective OT Art service is providedin response to identified patient needs in cooperation with individual patient's allocated Occupational Therapists and Assistants.
  • The post holder will also ensure that OT Art activities are provided to agreed service standards with liaison with all relevant professionals and within allocated financial resources. The post holder will be responsible for overseeing use of the OT ArtRoom ensuring that all activities meet health and safety, data protection and professional treatment standards, and will be involved in developing the service as agreed with the Head of Occupational Therapy.
  • The post holder will ensure their own high standard of clinical practice in line with the British Association of Occupational Therapy (BAOT), Royal College of Occupational Therapy Service Standards (RCOT) and the Health Professions Council, and negotiateappropriate education/training and service development for his/herself within this specialist field of neurodisability.
  • The OT Art Technician will be responsible for providing creative supervision for the Art Room Staff and will receive regular clinical supervision from a named Occupational Therapist. The Technician Grade post holder will complete additional departmentalresponsibilities as required.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • English language GCSE grade 4 or above, or equivalent
  • Art degree or equivalent
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general IT skills

Desirable

  • Relevant healthcare related qualifications
  • Experience of managing a small team

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with a variety of art media to include painting, printing, clay work, crafts and basic computer art packages
  • Experience of pottery and kiln firing
  • Evidence of ability to cope effectively in difficult situations
  • Experience of running art groups and knowledge of how to facilitate group activities

Desirable

  • Experience of working with people with neuro or other disabilities, or in a healthcare setting
  • Experience in organising, running and promoting art work and exhibitions
