Locum Prison Nurse (RGN)/(RMN) role available

Requirements of the Prison Nurse:

  • Must be registered on the NMC and must have a relevant qualification in nursing
  • Prison clearance and experience is essential

Duties:

  • As a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • You must be able to carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review individual recovery plans and confidently communicate the full range of treatment options available to service users
  • You will work with individuals, on a 11 basis, providing advice and information. You will support group work delivery and liaise with prescribers and Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions
  • You will occasionally be required to support dispensing. You must have an understanding and commitment to recovery and a personcentered approach
  • Make judgements involving a range of facts and situations, including both clinical and nonclinical scenarios, where there may be more than a straightforward range of options
  • To monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects, and to liaise with prescribers
  • To use assessment skills to interpret substance misuse and withdrawal symptoms, mental health, physical health and personality disorder issues and conditions and decide on appropriate action
  • To plan and organise their own daytoday diary and to respond to times of crisis and adjust work plans accordingly
  • Encourage prisoner involvement in the regime and therapeutic activities
  • Assess individual's health needs using an evidencedbased framework and capabilities
  • Provision of holistic care
  • Administer treatment within local guidelines/protocols
  • Recovery Planning
  • Demonstrate competent clinical skills in the delivery of the immunisations and vaccinations service. Hep B Vaccinations for chronic based disease management

  • Provide service user information and education
  • Safe Administration of prescribed medication. (Substance Misuse Controlled Drugs
