Job summary

Birmingham Children's Hospital is a leading UK specialist pediatrics center, offering expert care to 90,000 children and young people from across the country every year. Forming part of the Outpatients Dental Nursing Team, the post holder will undertake a range of duties to support consultants and clinical teams (including Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial Surgery, and Cleft Lip and Palate). This role will include activities such as: providing chair side assistance for patients (including sedation), attending theatre sessions preparing clinical records, radiographs, study models, organising and preparing equipment for clinics including equipment sterilisation. The post holder should have good communication and organisational skills, an enthusiasm to work and flexibility to meet the needs of the service.

A minimum of 2 years' experience is essential. Sedation qualified and experience is desirable, Experience of working with children and adolescents Is desirable. It is imperative to hold a National Examination Board Qualification/City & Guilds NVQ level 3 in Dental Nursing.

Main duties of the job

To effectively deliver fundamental Dental care to the patients, ensuring it is evidence based and maintained to a high standard, working in partnership with the patient and Dental Nurse will act in liaison with and in support of the Consultants in Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery in their role of delivering high quality clinical services. The post may have a requirement to work within other Outpatient services if required. The job primarily involves working with patients born with cleft lip & palate across sites providing orthodontic nursing support, at Birmingham Children's Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Good Hope Hospital , currently the adult service is based at Solihull and will move back to good hope end of the year.

Essential

Experience with children, adolescents and adults. Ability to recognise the need for immediate medical intervention. Ability to understand and respond in an emergency. Willing to undertake training and role expansion. Previous orthodontic experience equivalent of at least 2 years full time.

Desirable

Experience of working with patients with complex needs. Previous experience in dental specialised area other than orthodontics. Minimum 2 years following training experience in Dental Nursing.
