Manufacturing Director (Central Belt)

Abercorn Sinclair is excited to bring you this fantastic opportunity with our industry collaborator MiAlgae.

Established in 2016, MiAlgae utilizes cutting-edge advancements in science and technology to enhance food security and lessen the environmental impact of human activities. The company's goal is to eliminate the dependence on wild-caught fish for omega-3 by leveraging the potential of microalgae as a sustainable and nutrient-rich alternative source. Through their zero-waste approach, MiAlgae recycles by-products from food and beverage production to cultivate Omega-3-rich microalgae, contributing to clean water restoration.

The upcoming years will witness substantial investments and development within the company. We are in search of a seasoned Manufacturing Director who can lead team expansion, enhance production efficiency, and implement process enhancements to achieve their ambitious objectives.

The role:

You will supervise the complete manufacturing process, from sourcing raw materials to production and maintenance, ensuring all quality benchmarks are met. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will adopt a comprehensive outlook, focusing on resource allotment, long-term efficiency, and strategic planning for both existing and potential production facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish long-term targets for the production division, aligning them with overarching business objectives.
  • Supervise the production and engineering departments, providing full operational supervision to manufacturing staff, including recruitment, training, and performance assessments while ensuring adherence to departmental standards.
  • Promote operational excellence to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Cultivate a culture of continual improvement, accountability, and distinction, driving initiatives to optimize the production process, reduce waste, and uphold product quality.
  • Direct all production activities, from raw material acquisition to production output and production-related financial management.
  • Develop and oversee budgets related to manufacturing operations.
  • Effectively distribute resources (staff, materials, equipment) to achieve production targets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality regulations within production facilities.
  • Manage vendor relations by negotiating with suppliers to secure advantageous terms for equipment, materials, and services.
  • Stay informed about technological advancements, integrating pertinent tools and methodologies into manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as R&D, Tech Transfer, Commercial, and Supply Chain to support product development and commercialization endeavors.
  • Analyze production data and performance metrics to identify areas for process enhancement and cost efficiency.
  • Oversee Change Controls stemming from technical teams, ensuring a methodical approach to proposing, assessing, endorsing, implementing, and reviewing changes in the manufacturing process.
  • Lead the strategic expansion of prospective MiAlgae production facilities.

Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in senior leadership roles within manufacturing or production operations.
  • Extensive experience managing production processes, encompassing raw material procurement, production scheduling, quality assurance, and technology transfer from development to manufacturing.
  • Solid grasp of engineering principles, equipment upkeep, and troubleshooting.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse functions.
  • Prior involvement in biotechnology, food production, or related industries is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in manufacturing is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of budgets, cost management, and financial implications is beneficial.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate should ideally hold a degree/master's level qualification in a relevant technical field, along with substantial technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and strategic acumen to optimize production processes and spur business growth. They must be outcome-oriented, adaptable, and capable of instigating change in a dynamic, rapid-growth production environment.

As a youthful, early-stage enterprise, we seek individuals with a driven work ethic, flexibility, innate problem-solving abilities, and a penchant for thriving in a dynamic, high-growth setting.

The opportunity:

For the suitable candidate, this role offers a remarkable chance to join a thrilling, early-stage biotech company where you will play a pivotal function in enhancing their manufacturing/production capacity and ensuring their future triumph. In exchange, you can anticipate a competitive salary + benefits, including options, and the chance to collaborate with and lead a team wholly dedicated to crafting scalable, sustainable solutions.
