Band 6 Contracts Officer - Pharmacy and Optometry Contracts Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Direct Commissioning Team (Midlands Region) to cover the role of Contracts Officer - West Midlands (Pharmacy & Optometry Team)


We are seeking two (up to 1.4 wte) dynamic and enthusiastic individuals, with relevant experience, that is seeking to develop into a more senior role within primary care, specialising in the management of primary care Pharmacy & Optometry contracting and commissioning.


Operating within the wider West Midlands Pharmacy, Optometry and Dental (PODs) team, previous knowledge of primary care, particularly pharmacy and optometry, contracting and commissioning will be advantageous.

The role is responsible for the management and commissioning of pharmacy and optometry contracts in the West Midlands and working with contractors across the 6 ICB areas of Birmingham & Solihull, Coventry & Warwickshire, Herefordshire & Worcestershire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent, and The Black Country

Essential Criteria

  • Undertake complex and detailed information analysis of specific projects/reports. Ability to update, maintain, organise, gather and analyse information to predict/meet future organisational and team needs by identifying best professional practice.
  • Deliver against organisational objectives, achieving quality outcomes, prioritising own workload and working to tight deadlines.
  • Support implementation of strategic modernisation/service improvement, public health, workforce or commissioning strategies and any associated action plans.
  • Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services, and initiatives which may be highly complex, sensitive, political, and contain contentious information with the aim of providing information and analytical advice to the teams.
  • Experience of working at a similar level in specialist area and further training or significant experience in project management, financial management or supporting change management processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project management and/or health information systems development; continually striving for delivering project/function outcomes, value for money and greater efficiency.
  • A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it. Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of health services.
