We have an exciting new vacancy for a River Recreation Liaison to join Environmental Solutions team.


Overseeing the roll-out of real-time water quality risk notifications within the Wessex Water region, the River Recreation Liaison will work closely with colleagues in our Environmental Investigations team and with external stakeholders.

The opportunity


As a River Recreation Liaison, you will be joining the Environmental Solutions team where you will lead the delivery of Wessex Water's award-winning real-time water quality risk notification systems for river users.

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to identify appropriate locations for system deployment and manage the purchase and installation of sensor equipment and notification systems and their continued operation.


Responsibilities will include:
- managing the roll-out and maintenance of Wessex Water's real time recreational/amenity water risk notification system
- liaising with key stakeholders, including local council officers, to determine the most appropriate locations to enable recreational use and work required
- managing and delivering water quality monitoring programmes, with artificial intelligence platforms, to provide real time water risk information to recreational users
- working collaboratively to facilitate wider actions to enable safe enjoyment of rivers, such as encouraging local swimming groups, identifying funding streams and working with river safety officers
- working with the Environmental Investigations team to analyse and interpret data collected and to disseminate this to internal and external stakeholders
- working with systems providers to identify appropriate source data to develop risk and notification tools which can be shared easily with stakeholders.

What do I need?


To be successful you will be adaptable and able to understand and assimilate information provided by technical experts and confidently communicate this to a wider audience with a variety of understanding in simple terms.

You will have experience working deadlines and proactively managing workloads to prioritise the timely output of information.

In addition, you will have:
- experience working in the water, environmental or recreation sector
- an affinity for instrumentation, data collection and displaying data in meaningful way
- experience in project management or programme delivery to time and budget
- good literacy, communication and report writing skills; able to write fluidly for a range of audiences.
- experience working with monitoring or survey data, such as spreadsheets and databases, to analyse data gathered and present this in a useful way for different audiences
- an understanding of water quality, public health and Bathing Water Regulations, as well as the ability to demonstrate experience in this area, but this doesn't necessarily need an Environmental Science degree.


Due to the nature of this role, you will need to be a confident swimmer and hold a valid driving licence.
