We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking professional for the position of Junior Ward Manager to join Portman medical ward . You will need to be a dynamic and gregarious person who will provide outstanding leadership to the whole team.

You will provide nursing care to patients ensuring that patients and their families are treated with compassion, dignity and respect alongside a multi-disciplinary team . You will be able to promote a safe environment for patients and staff members and oversee the principles of safer staffing on the ward. You will have an understanding of the patient group in the unit and be able to support the patients, their families and multidisciplinary team to ensure that person centred care is given at every opportunity. You will also be responsible for presenting quality information at meetings in the absence of the ward sister.

As a Junior Ward Manager you be expected to be a role model for Staff Nurses and Health Care Assistants and ensure staff of all grades are supported in their work. You will be acting as an advocate to our patients and also for our staff . You will be supporting the Ward Manger to achieve the standards expected from our unit and help lead and promote current and future ward projects.

The role of the band 6 Junior Ward Manager is to support the band 7 manager with the senior leadership on the ward, working both clinically, and supporting the line management of the teams in the absence of the ward manager. The post holder will be supporting and delivering frontline care that will provide good patient care and experience for our patients. The post holder will also support the Ward Manger in the development and upskilling of junior staff. Provide leadership and role modelling in the development and mentorship of new and other staff.

They will be supporting with PALS, complaints and ensuring that we provide high standards of care to our patients and service users.

Supports the Senior Ward Sister and in her absence is responsible for all aspects of staff management, including the recruitment process of staff, sickness and performance monitoring, adhering to Trust Human resource policies, to ensure a fair and consistent approach when dealing with staff issues, under the guidance of the Matron or Associate Director of Patient Care

Plan the orientation and induction of new staff using the Trust induction policy

Plans, implements, carries out and evaluates care given by self and other nursing staff to patients and their relatives

Read and adhere to all Trust policies and ensure that all ward staff do this and keep records on their individual staff mandatory training record
