Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom UK Civil Service Full time
Job summaryAbout the Government Internal Audit Agency

The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) is an executive agency of His Majesty's Treasury (HM Treasury), established in April 2015 with the goal of enhancing the quality of internal audit services provided to central government. The majority of our team members are qualified professionals in internal auditing, accounting, or investigation, with expertise in areas such as counter fraud, project management, digital, and commercial auditing. We are at the forefront of both the Government Internal Audit Profession and Function, leveraging our diverse experiences across various government departments and sectors to deliver exceptional services based on broad insights and deep understanding of our clients' operations.

In the GIAA, we strive to create a conducive work environment and build the necessary capability and capacity to significantly contribute to the enhancement of A Brilliant Civil Service in the years to come. While our initial focus was on establishing a unified audit practice, we are now dedicated to elevating GIAA to new heights, providing enhanced insights and outcomes for government entities.

Job description

As a Senior Auditor at GIAA, you play a vital role as the primary point of contact for our clients, engaging with key decision-makers, audit specialists, and private sector partners within the Agency. You will work on stimulating assignments that challenge and enhance your skills, ensuring that we meet and exceed our customers' expectations. The ability to cultivate strong relationships with diverse stakeholders while delivering efficient and robust audit work is crucial to strengthening the Agency's client partnerships.

We value every member of our team and are committed to supporting your professional growth through technical training, coaching, and development opportunities. Our scope of services includes providing internal audit support to various UK government departments, ministerial and non-ministerial bodies, agencies, and public entities. At GIAA, we foster a culture of innovation, forward thinking, and collaborative effort to integrate new ideas, methodologies, and technologies, ensuring our approach and work remain contemporary, efficient, and impactful.

Notably, we have recently received accolades, such as being named a top 5 winner in the Government Category for the 2023 Inspiring Workplaces Awards, along with recognitions for 'Outstanding Team' and 'Inspirational Leader' at the IIA Audit and Risk Awards. This is a thrilling time to become part of the GIAA family, with the launch of our Audit Response Team (ART) and embedded client-facing teams, enabling us to extend our influence across the central government of the UK by enhancing responsiveness and agility while continuously addressing our customers' requirements.

We are currently hiring for various positions in both our customer-facing and audit response teams.

Audit Response Team

Within our Audit Response Team (ART), you will be involved in conducting a range of audits for diverse clients, collaborating closely with our client teams. As a member of the ART, you will benefit from tailored development programs to accelerate your integration and work closely with our high-performing teams, offering ample opportunities for skill enhancement and personal growth.

Customer Facing Team

For roles in our customer-facing team, you'll engage closely with individual clients, gaining in-depth insights into their operations and fostering productive relationships with key stakeholders. These roles offer an ideal platform for career advancement, with prospects for growth within GIAA and the broader civil service, enabling you to build a diverse skill set while establishing and nurturing strategic relationships at senior levels.

Senior Auditor Responsibilities
  • Be a collaborative team player, contributing effectively to GIAA's objectives in partnership with colleagues.
  • Demonstrate efficient time and resource management, proactively addressing potential issues, and providing solutions before deadlines.
  • Deliver precise and comprehensive reports meeting customer requirements, ensuring completion of agreed-upon actions.
  • Take ownership of multiple audits, meeting budget and quality expectations, and adhering to GIAA methodology using our IT audit software system.
  • Plan audit assignments, develop testing strategies, reporting timetables, and focus on identified risks using audit management software.

Senior Auditor Key Skills

  • Apply professional expertise to fulfill outlined responsibilities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, managing relationships with customers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, share knowledge, coach peers, and contribute to professional development.
  • Focus on personal and team development, engage in training, and adapt to organizational changes.
  • Stay organized, monitor audit deliverables, and ensure high-quality services within specified timelines and resource constraints.
  • Exhibit teamwork, supporting the growth of team members.
Person specification
  • Demonstrate a strong grasp of governance, risk management, and assurance matters.
  • Display analytical thinking, effective planning, and problem-solving skills under minimal supervision and tight deadlines.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, collaborating across all organizational levels.
  • Employ influencing techniques backed by evidence and negotiation instead of authority, showing resilience and tact in challenging scenarios.
  • Apt at gathering and presenting unbiased, relevant information to draw conclusions.
