Harlow, Essex, United Kingdom The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust Full time
This is an exciting time to join the Radiology Department at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust

We have been awarded the funding to support the vision for the West Essex Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) in providing timely access to diagnostics for all of the West Essex population, tackling health inequalities and achieving the 28-day Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS) for all potential cancer and non-cancer patients

PAHT sites, including St Margaret's Hospital, Epping (SMH) and Herts' and Essex Hospital, Bishops Stortford (HEH) via a hub and spoke approach will see better co-location of diagnostic services by offering streamlined diagnostic pathways with fewer appointments in a modern diagnostic setting

An opportunity is now available for enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Sonographers to join the Ultrasound team in senior roles.

You will scan and report independently on obstetrics, gynecology and abdominal ultrasound examinations to agreed protocols and standards.

Expertise in small parts and/or vascular ultrasound would also be an advantage. Consideration will also be given to sonographers specializing in just obstetrics and gynecology.

You will need to be a qualified sonographer holding a DMU or Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound, or equivalent, with appropriate registration (HCPC if a radiographer).

However, newly qualified staff will also be considered at an appropriate pay band.

  • To carry out obstetric, gynaecological (including transvaginal scanning), abdominal and vascular ultrasound examinations to agreed protocols and standards. To provide written reports after synthesising patient history and scan findings into a diagnosis.
  • To seek second opinion where necessary.
  • Accountable for own professional actions and decision making when acting within clinical protocols.
  • Communicating scan results to patients verbally as appropriate. This may be unwelcome and sometimes upsetting news; sometimes inconclusive results requiring explanation of how they may be interpreted (frequent emotional effort often resulting from mainly failing obstetric cases).
  • Communicating scan results to the referrer with the appropriate degree of urgency patient management being dependent upon the examination findings (requiring extreme and continued concentration).
  • Providing a very high standard of patient care at all times, referring patients for timely
management.
