Kensington Merseyside, United Kingdom National History Museum Full time
We are a world-class visitor attraction and leading science research centre. We use the Museum's unique collections and our unrivalled expertise to tackle the biggest challenges facing the world today.

We care for more than 80 million objects spanning billions of years and welcome more than five million visitors annually and 16 million visits to our website.

Today the Museum is more relevant and influential than ever.

We need everyone to have the passion and drive to help us with our mission to create advocates for our planet and inspire millions to care about the natural world.

Diversity and inclusion matter to us.

Diversity is one of our core values and we strive to build a workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

All new staff who join us learn about the importance of diversity and inclusion to the Museum and how to contribute to creating an inclusive environment.

We know we have more to do, but we are committed to ensuring that everyone who works at the Museum feels they can thrive and feel valued and respected.

Over 300 scientists based at the Museum tackle important global challenges, spanning mineral scarcity, food security and biodiversity loss.

The Museum is globally renowned for excellence in science and research and championing digital capacity and innovation.

The Museum has been awarded a substantial government investment of £202m, to create a new science and digitisation centre at Thames Valley Science Park (TVSP) which is owned by the University of Reading.

This is a once in a century opportunity to shape the future of the Museum, protect and share our unique collection and further our science.

The Programme comprises several major projects and workstreams and this role sits within the Moves Project.
Moves Project
The new centre will include a large collections store alongside new specialist laboratories and non-technical works spaces.

As part of this development, the Museum will be moving over a third of its 80 million specimens and Library and Archive collections from its four sites (in London, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire) to the new site, plus undertaking substantial internal moves.

This includes audit, documentation, stabilisation and rehousing, curation, and packing, among other activities.
The Museum is seeking a Collections Move Team Leader for the NHM Unlocked Programme.

The Team Leader will provide front line support and management of Collections Move Assistants delivering activities related to assessment, preparation, and packing of collections as part of the Unlocked Programme.

This role is part of the Unlocked Moves Project Team, working predominantly with the Life Sciences vertebrate collections, and is managed by the Collection Moves Preparation Manager.

As well as working directly with four other Moves Team Leaders you will work alongside other Project and Museum staff including curators, conservation, registration, digitisation and data specialists', and the Move Project management team.

We are looking for responsible, results-driven individuals who are able to combine a practical and theoretical understanding of natural history collections with a project-based approach and excellent communication skills.

You will lead on the day-to-day delivery of this ambitious programme, including the development and supervision of collection preparation activities, monitoring and reporting progress of work plans, and resolving or escalating issues.

Some travel may be required to the new site at Reading from 2027.

The ideal candidate will be a confident and results driven individual, who is excited to safeguard to the Museum's unique and diverse collections through an ambitious moves programme.

A strong understanding of collection management policies, procedures, documentation, and their practical implementation physically and digitally is key.

We are looking for someone who embraces solving complex problems and is able to think creatively to develop innovative new processes and workflows for collection preparation.

The successful candidate will be someone who is highly organised with excellent time management skills and is able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines within a complex environment.

To thrive in this role, you will be adept at building positive relationships across all levels of the organisation and have strong interpersonal skills.

We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience of successfully leading individuals or managing teams to deliver within a project-based environment.

An enthusiasm for the Natural History Museum and the natural world, as well as acting as an ambassador and champion for our brand, reputation and values are essential.

We are proud to work at the Museum and have identified the qualities we all need to embody to reach our shared ambition.

~ Generous defined contribution Natural History Museum Pension Scheme (employer contribution - 10%)
~ Season ticket, bicycle and rental loan

~ It also provides entry to up to 300 English Heritage sites and other national treasures. Hybrid working

We are working towards a vision where both people and planet thrive, and nothing gives a greater connection with this, than seeing first-hand, the visitors, scientific research and collections that all of our work is inspired by and working side by side with the teams delivering the visitor experience and events.

We also recognise the benefits and flexibility that hybrid working brings.

We operate a hybrid working model that requires regular, weekly attendance for this role, with the precise pattern of days on site and worked from home to be agreed with your manager.
